Job Title: Lead Behavioral Technician (Lead BT)

Location: Portsmouth

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Clinic Manger/Lead BCBA

Schedule:

Monday: 8:15 AM – 3:45 PM

Tuesday: 8:15 AM – 4:45 PM

Wednesday: 8:15 AM – 7:15 PM

Thursday: 8:15 AM – 4:45 PM

Friday: 8:15 AM – 3:45 PM

At Family Behavior Solutions we provide high-quality behavioral services in a supportive, structured environment. We are looking for a proactive, hands-on Lead Behavioral Technician to help our team deliver consistent, client-centered care while supporting and developing staff on the clinic floor.

Position Overview

The Lead BT is a highly visible, active role responsible for supporting staff, maintaining Clinic flow, and ensuring fidelity to client behavior intervention plans (BIPs). This position requires flexibility, strong real-time coaching skills, and the ability to respond quickly to challenging situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Active Floor Leadership: Be present on the clinic floor, monitor staff and client behavior, and address gaps or challenges proactively.
  • Real-Time Behavior Support: Respond to escalating behaviors, model interventions, and support staff in implementing BIPs safely and effectively.
  • Staff Coaching & Development: Provide in-the-moment coaching, feedback, and guidance to build staff confidence and competence.
  • Coverage & Flexibility: Assist with breaks, absences, or sessions as needed, and adapt priorities to meet the needs of the clinic.
  • Maintain Clinic Flow: Support smooth transitions, ensure schedules are followed, and help address disruptions efficiently.
  • Client-Specific Training: Guide new BTs through session structure, target goals, reinforcement systems, and BIP implementation.
  • Ensure Fidelity to Plans: Prompt, correct, and reinforce staff to maintain consistency and adherence to client plans.
  • Decision-Making Within Scope: Implement plans safely, adjust strategies as needed, and escalate clinical questions to BCBA/SA.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position requires frequent movement, including standing, walking, kneeling, playing on the floor, and light lifting (up to 30 lbs) while engaging with children in home and community settings. Paraprofessionals must be able to respond quickly and physically to ensure the safety of clients, including potential physical intervention in behavioral situations. Reliable transportation is required for travel between multiple service locations. The work may take place in varied environments, including homes, clinics, schools, or outdoor settings, and may involve occasional exposure to loud noises or physically active behavior from clients.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • RBT or ability to get RBT Certification within 6 months in role
  • 1-2+ Years Experience as a Behavioral Technician (BT) in applied behavior analysis (ABA) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of BIPs and behavioral strategies (BST approach).
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills.
  • Ability to stay proactive, flexible, and calm in high-stress situations.
  • Team-oriented and committed to fostering staff development.
