Consultant - Mission Advancement
Location: McKinney, Texas (75% travel)
Position Summary
At Mission Advancement, our Consultants are our business. They play a pivotal role in partnering with a diverse array of clients and adeptly navigating a broad spectrum of organizational cultures. This role is primarily dedicated to assisting clients who seek guidance and support in the domain of capital campaign and annual fundraising strategies. Depending on prior experience, our Consultants may also extend their valuable assistance to clients in annual fundraising, grant work, or board training.
The ideal candidate has a robust background in nonprofit development or leadership, which includes proficiency in relational skills and major gift fundraising. Mission Advancement serves clients nationwide, making travel a fundamental, required aspect of this role.
This is a high-trust, high-responsibility role that requires excellent judgment, discretion, and a commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities
Lead nonprofit leaders, including Executive Director, Head of School, Development Team, and key volunteers to successful fundraising workLead planning studies, capital campaigns, and other related servicesCultivate and sustain major gifts programs, drive successful campaigns, and support annual fundraisingLead study interviews, organization assessments, and donor planning processes including prospect identification, research, and evaluationAssess and plan for client improvements – conduct organization health assessments and deploy best practicesServe as a trusted guide and resource for clients and their teamsDevelop strategies for cultivation and solicitation of key donor prospects including the preparation of the client’s solicitation team Engage our work with constant curiosity, a desire to increase personal capacity, and a willingness to share learnings with client and team for collective growthPresent updates to Boards regarding scope of work, progress to goals, contract extensions, etc. Support Business Development needs with grassroots networking Provide accessible, responsive communication with clients when off siteSuccess Looks Like

Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience in nonprofit development or leadership workExceptional communication – oral, written, interpersonal interactions and presentationsStrong relationship-building skills, leadership capabilities, and ability to drive resultsA team mindset – willing to collaborate, receive coaching, ask for help, and coach othersExceptional time management – able to operate independently to prioritize and executeWilling to travel, up to 75%, for client engagements requiring multiple days on-siteProficiency in computer applications (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.) with the ability to adapt to new software and AI platformsA willingness to collaborate with a variety of faith-based organizations, comprehending their unique organizational cultures.
