Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Audio Transcription Adjudicator based in India.
This is a remote freelance opportunity supporting an English (US) speech data project focused on high-quality word-level transcription and timestamp annotations. In this role, you will review disputed or ambiguous annotations and make final decisions that help maintain accuracy and consistency across the project. You will work directly with audio data, applying detailed style guidelines and using strong linguistic judgment to resolve challenging cases. Your decisions will contribute to improving the quality of data used to develop more culturally relevant and inclusive AI systems. The role offers flexible project-based work with a commitment of 15–20 hours per week. It is well suited to professionals with transcription, annotation, linguistic review, or quality assurance experience who are comfortable working independently.
- Review word-level transcription and timestamp annotations that have been flagged by first-pass annotators due to disagreements, ambiguity, or potential quality issues.
- Listen carefully to English (US) audio clips and make final determinations regarding transcription accuracy and word-level segment boundaries, ensuring decisions are consistent and well supported.
- Apply the project style guide and annotation standards consistently when resolving edge cases, maintaining a high level of accuracy throughout the adjudication process.
- Provide clear and concise rationales for adjudication decisions so that outcomes can be understood and applied consistently across the annotation workflow.
- Identify recurring patterns in annotator errors or areas of ambiguity and communicate relevant quality observations to support improvements in the overall annotation process.
- Strong English (US) cultural expertise and excellent listening comprehension, with the ability to accurately understand spoken language and recognize relevant linguistic or contextual nuances.
- Previous experience in transcription, annotation quality assurance, adjudication, linguistic review, or a closely related field is preferred, particularly where detailed language or audio data has been evaluated.
- Strong judgment and the ability to interpret and apply detailed guidelines consistently, including when working with ambiguous or disputed audio segments.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and comfort making well-reasoned decisions when the available information is unclear or open to interpretation.
- A reliable internet connection, a quiet working environment, and good-quality headphones suitable for careful and repeated audio review.
- Remote flexibility: Work fully remotely from India with autonomy over where you complete your project work.
- Flexible commitment: Contribute approximately 15–20 hours per week, making the opportunity suitable for professionals seeking project-based flexibility.
- Freelance opportunity: Join a project-based engagement with a defined scope and the flexibility associated with freelance work.
- Competitive project rate: Earn USD 7.00 per hour for completed project work.
- AI and LLM learning opportunities: Access optional workshops focused on artificial intelligence and large language models, designed for professionals without requiring coding experience.
- Global contributor community: Connect with an international community of contributors and receive responsive guidance and support throughout your work.
- Meaningful impact: Use your language and transcription expertise to contribute to AI systems designed to become more culturally relevant, accurate, and inclusive.
- Start date: The project is scheduled to begin on September 7, 2026.
