  • Plan and execute database deployments, migrations, schema changes, and other infrastructure updates while minimizing downtime and operational risk.
  • Provide after-hours and on-call support for critical deployments and production database incidents, sharing coverage with the wider technical team.
  • Monitor database health, identify performance bottlenecks, investigate incidents, and implement proactive solutions to maintain stable and efficient systems.
  • Partner with Engineering teams to design scalable and resilient data architectures that support new products, features, and evolving business requirements.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for database security, access management, data governance, reliability, and operational consistency.
  • Document database architecture, procedures, recovery processes, and operational standards to strengthen team knowledge and continuity.
  • Mentor engineers and share database best practices, troubleshooting approaches, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Collaborate across a distributed, multi-time-zone environment to ensure effective communication and reliable database operations.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator, Database Engineer, or in a comparable senior data infrastructure role.
  • Strong hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
  • Proven expertise in database backup and recovery, replication, high-availability architectures, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Experience supporting production deployments, migrations, and database changes, including participation in after-hours or on-call rotations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues under pressure.
  • Experience designing or supporting scalable database architectures in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of database security, access control, governance, and operational best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership in a fully remote, distributed team operating across multiple time zones.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Based in Mexico or a comparable time zone that provides effective working-hour overlap with a Bogotá-based engineering team.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers and technical stakeholders across functions.
  • Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing skills, with an interest in mentoring other engineers.
Benefits:
  • Competitive monthly compensation of $3,000–$4,500.
  • Fully remote working environment.
  • Opportunity to work on complex database and infrastructure challenges within a growing payments technology environment.
  • High level of ownership and autonomy over critical production database systems.
  • Collaboration with an international, distributed engineering team.
  • Opportunity to contribute to scalable payment infrastructure across Latin America and beyond.
