Materials and Process Engineer
Plasma Processes – Huntsville, AL
Plasma Processes, a supplier of advanced coatings and additively manufactured material solutions for aerospace, defense, power generation, and other key industries has an immediate opening for a Materials and Process Engineer. The candidate will support advanced materials development using innovative manufacturing methods. Experience with thermal barrier coatings (TBC), ultrahigh temperature ceramics (UHTC), and refractory materials is preferred.
Job Summary:
This position will involve developing, characterizing, and maturing materials and processes for propulsion and other high-temperature applications. The goal of this position is to conduct research efforts and manage development and, or production programs within DoD and prime contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess relationship between manufacturing, microstructure and mechanical performance
Identify and define problems, collect data and draw valid conclusions
Lead execution of material test and development campaigns
Create, review and maintain engineering documentation including work instructions, test procedures, and specifications
Work in a team environment
Lead/direct technicians using both written and verbal instructions
Generate charts and graphs in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Self-managed research efforts
Project management of research and manufacturing activities
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science or Materials Engineering
Experience in metallography and structural/physical material evaluation techniques
Good problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently on assigned projects and bring them to close
Ability to interpret engineering drawings/models and apply their specific intent
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters, or PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering or Metallurgy.
Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive or defense
Project management skills
Experience with mechanical testing using load frames or similar equipment
Experience contributing to the disposition of non-conformances
Hands-on experience with the manufacturing or testing of high temperature materials
Familiarity with (NDE) techniques
Experience with materials characterization (SEM, EDS, XRD, ICP)
Mechanical aptitude
CAD software experience preferred
