Job Description

Description:

GIS Benefits has named a new category in the employee benefits market: Benefits Operating Partner™. The visual identity is built. The declaration has been made. What this role is responsible for is making sure every asset — and the words on it are worthy of it.

The Graphic Designer owns the GIS visual identity and produces the creative output that brings the brand to life across every format. Design is the primary discipline: this person builds and maintains the visual system, produces sales collateral, website assets, presentations, and campaign creative, and uses modern AI-powered design tools to move quickly and independently. Light copywriting capability is a valued secondary skill — not a replacement for a trained brand writer, but enough comfort with language to draft short-form copy, tighten a headline, or adapt existing brand messaging onto a new asset without always waiting for a specialist.

Design is the primary discipline. Copywriting capability — enough to execute short-form and adapted copy — is a valued and differentiating secondary skill.

The ideal candidate thinks like an art director, designs like a brand veteran, and is fluent enough in brand voice and messaging to execute independently on lighter copy needs. A “figure it out” mindset is a must.

Requirements:

What This Role Owns

Visual Identity & Brand System

  • Own and protect the GIS visual identity — every asset that goes to market reflects the established design standard
  • Develop and maintain the brand book's visual guidelines: logo usage, color, typography, layout, and templates
  • Serve as design steward — reviewing outbound materials for visual consistency, quality, and craft
  • Establish the visual design system that all future marketing, sales, and communications build from

Sales Enablement & Collateral

  • Design sales and marketing assets: presentations, flyers, brochures, one-pagers, and service-specific enablement materials
  • Translate complex employee benefits positioning into clear, visually compelling layouts for broker, employer, and carrier audiences
  • Maintain a single organized library of approved, current creative assets for active sales team use
  • Draft or adapt short-form copy (headlines, captions, calls to action) directly onto assets when a full brand-writing pass isn't required

Website & Digital Content

  • Own all website visual design — page layout, imagery, hero treatments, and visual hierarchy
  • Design light organic LinkedIn creative and visual assets to support thought leadership and press releases as needed
  • Ensure all digital creative is consistent with the brand system and updated as the business evolves

Creative Production & Art Direction

  • Use AI-powered design tools (Canva, Adobe Firefly, Adobe Express, Midjourney, or equivalent) to produce on-brand creative assets, templates, and visual concepts
  • Brief, direct, and manage freelance copywriters or brand writers when specialist long-form writing is required
  • Coordinate project intake and creative workflow — manage timelines, approvals, and asset delivery

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, produce, and refine brand and marketing creative across all formats: presentations, sales collateral, web, email, social, press assets, executive storytelling visuals
  • Own the GIS visual identity — apply it consistently, and protect it in every review
  • Produce visual assets and design concepts using AI and modern production tools; execute independently where possible, brief specialists where required
  • Draft light-touch copy directly onto assets — headlines, CTAs, captions, short social copy — and brief and manage freelance writers for deeper copy needs
  • Brief and manage freelance creative partners: write the brief, manage the timeline, hold the quality standard
  • Develop sales enablement materials that brokers, carriers, and the GIS sales team use in real conversations
  • Build and maintain the brand book's visual standards, training guides, and internal creative resources as the brand launches and evolves
  • Navigate ambiguity and multiple concurrent high-priority projects without losing quality or momentum
  • Partner directly with GIS leadership and sales leadership to identify creative gaps and build the tools that close them

Required Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of graphic design, visual brand, or creative production experience in an agency, in-house brand team, or brand consultancy
  • Demonstrated ability to design across formats: presentations, sales collateral, web assets, social creative, print-ready materials
  • Experience establishing or maintaining a visual identity system — brand guidelines, templates, or design standards
  • Fluency with at least one AI-powered or modern design/production tool: Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, Figma, or equivalent
  • Comfortable enough with language to draft short-form copy, edit for clarity, and apply an established brand voice to new assets
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Portfolio (work examples) demonstrate real range across format and audience — not a single specialty
  • Bachelor's degree in design, visual communications, marketing, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in employee benefits, insurance, financial services, or a related intermediate industry
  • Experience designing for a channel or partner audience — brokers, agents, distributors, or similar
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) in addition to AI-powered tools
  • Experience supporting a brand launch or new visual identity from the ground up
  • Experience marketing through a channel audience — not just direct to end consumers
  • Comfort in a lean or small creative function where you set direction and do the work

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Occasional travel for meetings or company events may be required.
