Description:
ATA Services is seeking part-time legal professional with strong experience with trusts, elder law and/or Medicaid to support Denver's Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.
Contract Length: Until June 30th, 2027, with possible extension
Schedule + Hours: 20 hours per week (40 hours per month), flexible hours between 9 am - 3 pm. Wednesdays from 11-12 pm
Job Location: Remote but needs to be onsite to pick up and drop off equipment at start and end of contract.
Pay Rate: $75/hr.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing and interpreting trust agreements and other legal documents for individuals applying for medical assistance programs
- Preparing and issuing trust determination letters to medical assistance eligibility offices
- Conducting legal research and applying federal and state regulations to trust-related eligibility decisions
- Analyzing trust accountings to identify compliance concerns and eligibility issues
- Managing recovery of remaining trust balances payable to the Department upon trust termination
- Assisting with administrative appeals and legal proceedings in partnership with the Colorado Attorney General's Office
- Providing guidance and recommendations regarding trust compliance and Medicaid eligibility requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- The qualifications that we are looking for are as follows:
- Preferably a law degree but would also consider someone with a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting and finance, public policy or in any other field of study related to these duties.
- The ideal candidate would have five years' experience:
- Drafting or reviewing and interpreting trust instruments; and/or
- Administering trusts, including involvement in the decisions related to trust distributions and the preparation or review of trust accountings and tax filings.
