Your Mission
Support the SUPSHIP Newport News Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) Planning Team by providing SQL development, database administration, Microsoft Access application support, and data platform modernization support across legacy and current systems.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will provide structured query language (SQL), Microsoft Access, database administration, and application troubleshooting support to RCOH project teams. You will help maintain, enhance, secure, and modernize mission-critical data applications while coordinating with Government stakeholders and end users to ensure reliable functionality and interoperability across legacy and modern data platforms.
- Maintain, enhance, develop, and troubleshoot existing Microsoft Access applications and legacy Access (.accdb) databases.
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases, including backups, performance tuning, security administration, user account management, and database optimization.
- Design, develop, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL database-driven applications while ensuring data integrity and compliance with cybersecurity requirements.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, project managers, end users, and technical teams to gather requirements, evaluate solutions, and implement enhancements.
- Convert Microsoft Access SQL statements to SQL Server syntax and support database modernization and migration initiatives.
- Design and maintain Microsoft Access graphical user interface (GUI) forms and troubleshoot Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code.
- Implement security enhancements within database applications and support cybersecurity compliance activities as required.
- Utilize software version control systems and established development practices to maintain application integrity and configuration management.
- Develop, modify, and optimize database queries, stored procedures, views, and reports to support operational and business requirements.
- Analyze and resolve database and application performance issues while recommending process improvements and modernization opportunities.

Requirements:Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in SQL development, database administration, software development, business systems support, or related information technology disciplines.
- Experience developing, maintaining, administering, troubleshooting, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server databases and database-driven applications.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or later, including database design, query optimization, backups, security, and performance tuning.
- Experience supporting and maintaining Microsoft Access applications and legacy Access (.accdb) databases.
- Proficiency in SQL query development, stored procedures, views, and database reporting.
- Ability to design Microsoft Access forms and troubleshoot or modify VBA code.
- Experience supporting application troubleshooting, software enhancements, and database modernization efforts.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of software version control systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess Security+ or an equivalent DoD 8570-compliant certification.
- SQL Server certification preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance or higher.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with SQL Server migration, database modernization, or application modernization initiatives.
- Experience supporting federal government or Department of Defense (DoD) environments.
- Experience working with enterprise data systems, business applications, or large-scale operational databases.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database technologies, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with data analytics, reporting tools, or business intelligence solutions.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices related to database administration and application security.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time.
- Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and similar resources.
- Must be able to frequently communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, including delivering presentations.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information in professional communication settings.
