POSITION: Parenting Education Facilitator - Rose M. Singer Center (Rikers)
REPORTS TO: Program Director, Visiting and Family Assistance Program
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM; some evenings required
STATUS: Full-Time, Salaried
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SALARY: $60,000 per year
POSITION SUMMARY
The Parenting Education Facilitator (PEF) will provide services to justice-involved women detained at the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island and their families in the community to strengthen family connections during detention, facilitate long-term stability, and increase family reunification outcomes. The PEF will oversee and coordinate all aspects of Hour Children's parenting education offerings, including Partners in Parenting, Anger Management, and Healthy Relationships.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with the Visiting and Family Assistance Staff, including Social Workers, as needed, to plan, administer and evaluate all curriculums.
• Facilitate gender-responsive and trauma-informed group programming that addresses parenting, relationships, and navigating systems.
• Evaluate existing curriculums to ensure they are relevant and meaningful; revise as necessary.
• Develop and coordinate opportunities for enrichment, including guest speakers, unique seminars, staff development, and educational workshops as needed.
• Work collaboratively with the Doulas to support new mothers in the RMSC Nursery and develop a parenting curriculum for participants who reside in the nursery.
• Pre- and post-test participants to demonstrate knowledge gains, evaluate classes, and document programmatic outcomes.
• Oversee all related logistics, including scheduling classes, coordinating class locations, confirming attendance, and planning graduation.
• Facilitate weekly support groups for families in the community, including a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group.
• Maintain appropriate client information and documentation in electronic databases and hard files, and submit accurate data on a regular basis.
• Attend internal staff meetings, trainings, and supervision, as well as related external meetings and trainings with resource partners.
• Comply with all Jail procedures, processes, and requirements, including all security regulations and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) requirements.
• Perform additional department- or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by the supervisor.

Position Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
• BA preferably in Education or Social Work and/or prior work experience in group facilitation.
• Master's degree preferred but not required.
• At least two years of direct practice experience working with individuals and families impacted by incarceration, criminal justice, foster care or family court involvement, substance abuse issues, and/or intimate partner violence.
• Successful completion of background investigation by DOC as part of the volunteer application process.
• A demonstrated commitment to parents' rights and social justice.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have the ability to provide effective services and produce accurate written documents in a timely fashion.
• Must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally inclusive manner.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be able to maintain solid, productive boundaries and work cooperatively with DOC and staff.
• Computer and technical skills, specifically Microsoft Office programs.
• Spanish language fluency is preferred.
PHYSICAL / SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS
• Flexibility to work evenings or occasional weekends, as needed.
• Ability to travel across the five boroughs and to the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island.
