Job Description

MISSION CONTRIBUTION:

Leads Salvage, Bargain Barns, and transportation operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement and stewardship of donated goods while maximizing revenue and supporting mission services.

SUMMARY:

Under the Director of Logistics and Donor Services, oversees Salvage and Bargain Barns operations and coordinates daily transportation and material movement. Serves as the primary operational liaison for outsourced transportation vendors and supports safety, compliance, service, cost control, and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Promotes a safe, respectful, drug-free workplace and ensures operations align with Goodwill policies, Core Values, Guiding Principles, and zero-tolerance standards.
  2. Directs after-market resale, Salvage, and Bargain Barns operations to meet profitability, production, service, and safety goals.
  3. Hires, trains, coaches, supervises, and evaluates team members and departmental leaders.
  4. Manages departmental budgets, labor, payroll, supplies, equipment, and expense-to-revenue performance.
  5. Ensures proper handling, processing, inventory control, and stewardship of donated goods and purchased merchandise.
  6. Maintains facility, dock, warehouse, equipment, image, loss prevention, safety, and security standards.
  7. Coordinates daily transportation, routes, loads, equipment availability, and material movement among donation sites, retail locations, logistics facilities, Bargain Barns, and salvage outlets.
  8. Serves as the primary operational contact for outsourced transportation vendors, communicating needs, resolving service issues, and supporting accountability for safety, reliability, cost, and performance expectations.
  9. Maintains transportation records, load documentation, inventory data, service metrics, operational reports, and vendor performance information.
  10. Provides hands-on training in loading, unloading, staging, load securement, material handling, forklift use, and service expectations.
  11. Supports incident response and follow-up involving vendors, vehicles, loads, facilities, or material movement and promptly escalates concerns.
  12. Partners with Operations and support teams to implement and improve distribution procedures, technologies, and operating processes.
  13. Supports transportation expense planning, vendor cost review, equipment allocation, and capital or operational investment recommendations.
  14. Develops salvage and zero-waste opportunities that increase revenue, reduce waste, and support environmental initiatives.
  15. Ensures hazardous materials and transportation practices comply with applicable local, state, federal, OSHA, U.S. DOT, and Goodwill requirements.
  16. Identifies and resolves service gaps or conflicts affecting collection, production, transportation, distribution, and sale of donated goods.
  17. Conducts pre-work meetings and communicates training, safety, retention, productivity, and service updates to team members and Operations leadership.
  18. Attends required training and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated leadership, communication, customer service, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills with a people-first approach.
  2. Ability to lead in a hands-on warehouse environment and maintain effective relationships with team members, leaders, customers, donors, vendors, and partners.
  3. Working knowledge of transportation, distribution, warehouse, production, material movement, forklift, load securement, and safe lifting practices.
  4. Ability to coordinate multiple locations, vendors, priorities, and service needs with clear communication and follow-through.
  5. Ability to interpret operational data, vendor performance, service reports, and cost measures to support sound decisions.
  6. Ability to independently identify resources, resolve issues, and make timely operational decisions.
  7. Knowledge of transportation safety practices and applicable U.S. DOT requirements preferred.
  8. Ability to perform the physical and visual functions required to safely work around vehicles, forklifts, docks, and warehouse operations.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  1. Associate degree in business, logistics, supply chain, operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  2. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in logistics, transportation, distribution, warehouse, production, vendor management, or a related operational environment preferred.
  3. Experience coordinating outsourced transportation providers, negotiating with vendors, or managing service-level expectations preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Able to stand, bend, reach, and lift over 40 lbs. regularly.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. This safety-sensitive position requires drug testing and may require access to facility keys and alarm systems.
  2. Must be available for after-hours and weekend work and regular travel to multiple locations.
  3. Must possess a valid driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and reliable personal transportation for travel throughout Goodwill territory.
