Position Summary:
Participates in abstracting facility Evaluation and Management levels and charges in accordance to CMS and NCHS principles and conventions under the direct supervision of management.
Your location:
This position is US-Remote Eligible. Currently, Kootenai Health employees cannot be located in: California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington D.C., West Virginia, or Wyoming. Responsibilities:
- Reviews the medical record to ensure the clinical documentation supports all billed Emergency Department (ED) charges
- Works closely with management and/or seasoned staff in identifying the discrepancies in the ED documentation reporting findings
- Accurately abstracts records to capture charges per the department’s productivity and quality standards
- Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Works under general supervision
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- 1 year hospital experience required; 2 years’ preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and E/M documentation
- Proficient computer skills
- Coding certification preferred
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to maintain a sitting position
- Typical equipment used in a clinical and office job
- Remote eligible
