About This Position



This is a work-study student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function.

QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

A student must be awarded and accept a “Work-Study Permit” for the semester.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Computer experience
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Provides office assistance to the department by assisting staff in routine clerical duties and responsibilities.
  2. Provides assistance in answering phone calls on a multi-line system, routing incoming calls, taking messages, answering questions, greeting visitors, and directing and assisting students and faculty.
  3. Assists in file and records maintenance.
  4. Assists in the preparation and implementation of departmental project/program activities.
  5. Provides general information and/or training regarding project/program.
  6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.
  2. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.
  3. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  4. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  5. Ability to complete tasks with accuracy, thoroughness, and minimal supervision.
  6. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  7. Ability to demonstrate personability, motivation, punctuality, reliability, and initiative.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Some lifting is required.
Student must have received a work-study award. Please reach out to Financial Aid to confirm your eligibility for work-study before you apply.
Hourly pay rate is determined by work study awarded amount/hours worked for semester.
**Send an email showing your awarded work study amount for Fall 2025/Spring 2026 to earth@sfasu.edu with your campus ID number.

Will work approximately 20 hours a week. Must to be able to work the following hours in Fall semester:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9:00-9:50am; 11:00–11:50am
Monday, Wednesday: 2:00-4:00pm
Every other Friday 12:00-5:00pm
Tuesday, Thursday: Hours flexible 8:00am-5:00pm
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
