About This Position
Processing Referrals:
Handling the initial referral request, gathering necessary patient information (medical history, diagnosis), and submitting it to the appropriate specialist or facility
Confirming patient eligibility with insurance providers and obtaining any necessary pre-authorizations for the referral
Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all referral activity in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Communication: Acting as a point of contact for patients, providers, and insurance companies, addressing inquiries and resolving any issues related to the referral. Tracking the progress of referrals, ensuring timely completion of appointments and procedures, and following up with patients and providers as needed. Effectively communicating with patients, providers, and insurance companies throughout the referral process. They may also need to explain the referral process to patients and answer their questions.
Teamwork: Working collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to ensure smooth and efficient referral processes.
- Bilingual preferred
- Medical office experience
- Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial for interacting with patients, physicians, insurance companies, and other healthcare professionals.
- Organization and attention to detail: Referral coordinators must manage multiple tasks, track referrals, and maintain accurate patient records.
- Insurance knowledge: A basic understanding of insurance plans and procedures is important for verifying coverage and obtaining prior authorizations.
