About This Position
The Executive Director of Finance & Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership across all financial and administrative functions for a growing, multidisciplinary physician practice. This includes oversight of financial planning and analysis, day-to-day practice operations, provider contracting, and revenue cycle management. The practice includes orthopedic services, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, a surgery center, outpatient clinics, and pain management services, with approximately 100 employees.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for aligning operational performance with the organization's financial goals and regulatory compliance, while fostering a high-performance culture centered on patient care and service excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial LeadershipDevelop and manage annual budgets, financial forecasts, and business plans in collaboration with ownership.
Provide monthly financial reporting and variance analysis for executive review.
Oversee cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger activities.
Lead the revenue cycle team in optimizing billing, coding, collections, and payer reimbursements.
Support physician owners with financial modeling for service line expansion, capital investment, and strategic planning.
Manage day-to-day non-clinical operations including administrative staffing, patient scheduling, facilities, and vendor management.
Streamline processes to improve efficiency, cost control, and patient satisfaction.
Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
Direct operational planning for multi-site clinic activities and support service integration.
Lead payer negotiations including fee schedules, contract renewals, and credentialing processes.
Manage payer relations to resolve underpayments and reduce denials.
Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure all provider and vendor agreements are current and compliant.
Directly supervise finance, billing, front office, and administrative management teams.
Establish KPIs and accountability measures to evaluate performance and support continuous improvement.
Lead employee engagement and retention efforts through professional development, training, and support.
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field required.
MBA, MHA, or CPA strongly preferred.
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare finance and operations.
At least 3 years in a senior management role within a multi-specialty or surgical practice.
Demonstrated success managing payer contracts, revenue cycle operations, and multisite clinics.
Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to interpret complex data and trends.
Skilled in EMR, practice management, and financial software (e.g., athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, QuickBooks).
Proven leadership and communication skills across clinical and administrative teams.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, physician-led organization with multiple service lines.
