Job Summary
Under the direction of the Tax Assessor and/or Assessor Office Management Team, the role performs on-site inspections for diversified properties and purposes. The position has extensive contact with residents and the general public. The position also assists with various tasks and projects, as well as performs general office work.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs property inspections daily, including but not limited to residential, farmland, commercial, exempt, vacant land, and properties affected by fire and/or natural disasters
- Assists with the annual reassessment program by performing inspections daily, inputting inspection data, implementing global market changes, and proofing/reviewing changed values
- Researches, processes, and updates all Certificates of Occupancy and approval information from the Building Department
- Performs inspections of properties that have recently undergone a Change of Ownership
- Inspects and measures all structures that have recently undergone structural changes, inputs the data changes in all records, including but not limited to the PRC and appraisal software, and confirms measurements of existing structures
- Inspect, measure, sketch, and data input all information for each newly constructed structure
- Data input all property information collected from performing field inspections
- Assist with scheduling field inspections when the primary scheduler as needed
- Assist coworkers in performing tasks when requested by the Tax Assessor or Assessor Office Management Team
- Assist the Assessor, Deputy Assessor, or Assistant Manager with special projects or newly assigned duties
- Assist the department in backend administrative tasks as needed
- Perform other such duties and assignments as needed
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Required
- Ability to measure large structures
- Ability to review and obtain measurement information from blueprints to calculate square footage
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Experience in various software applications
- Strong mathematical skills
- Extraordinary organization and time management skills
- Ability to multitask in a busy environment.
- Ability to work independently
Preferred
- Prior experience performing inspections
- Previous experience measuring large structures
- Previous experience reviewing blueprints to calculate square footage
- Formal training in the field of Property Assessment, Real Estate Appraisal and/or Real Estate Sales, Commercial Inspections and/or Calculation of Farmland Worksheets
Education, Certifications, and Licenses
Required
- Minimum formal education of a high school diploma
- Minimum 2 years of previous work experience
- Completion of two (2) Property Tax Administration courses offered by the Rutgers Center for Government Services within two (2) years of hire date
- Valid driver's license
Preferred
- Certified Tax Assessor, Active Real Estate License or Active Appraiser License
Physical Requirements
- Physically capable of performing inspections on a daily basis and in all weather conditions
- A minimum of 15-25 inspections are expected to be performed on a daily basis
- Ability to work for extended periods on computer-based tasks
- The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
Additional Information
- Clearance of a background check
- Department operating hours are 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday
- May require occasional work outside of normal business hours, if the employee is available
