Job Description
Position Summary:
This position provides supervision to staff who are responsible for the financial resolution of insurance and client receivables, insurance billing, and third party collection of balances with the goal of maximizing cash collections and minimizing accounts receivable (A/R) days while delivering excellent customer service. Provides staff technical and procedural direction as well as training.
Essential Duties:
Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
Monitors, organizes, and delegates insurance billing and insurance collection workload, according to availability of staff and established performance standards. Reports key factors of productivity and/or issues, both internal and external, which may impact performance. Proposes and implements procedural and systematic changes for enhancing departmental productivity.
Monitors all third party payer billing and collection regulations and compliance guidelines. Works to apply any updates/changes to the patient accounting software and the billing application software in order to comply with applicable and current billing/collection regulations. Assists PFS Manager to implement procedures applicable to changes in billing/collection legislation and guidelines.
Has a thorough understanding of CPT, HCPCS & ICD-10 codes, HCFA and UB04 claim forms, DRG, insurance benefits including authorizations/referrals.
Works closely with the Patient Accounting Applications Analyst to identify and resolve system issues, and testing new releases or fixes within the patient accounting software and the billing application software.
Works closely with other PFS Supervisors, Account Representatives, and Billers to identify claims rejections, denials, and timeliness of account resolution. Reviews and revises insurance billing procedures to ensure prompt and accurate third party processing.
Maintains close supervision of the collection processes for the most difficult accounts.
Communicates with self-pay vendor; including, but not limited to, patient complaints, bad debt turnover process, adjustment approval, account reconciliation, quality control monitoring through audit sampling to measure performance and compliance and managing and facilitating the hospital’s response to vendor’s requests for information.
Other Duties:
Performs as back up to staff absences and vacancies, as necessary. Requires an understanding of reporting staff’s duties.
Attends and participates in various inter-departmental meetings, as directed.
Ensures customer satisfaction through effective problem solving. Promotes and maintains open communication with all patients regardless of age. Acts on the patient’s behalf in receiving prompt, efficient and courteous service.
Provides feedback to other departments to help ensure a high level of training to access staff in order to prevent account edits, billing edits and claims denials. Promotes and maintains open communication with internal and external customers through effective problem solving.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Healthcare or Business Administration, preferred
Work Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of recent and related experience in third party collections, third-party governmental billing and reimbursement in a healthcare environment is required. Three (3) years supervising third party payer billing/ collections preferred.
Special Training, Certification or Licensure: None
Salary Range: $53,000 - $65,000
