GENERAL SUMMARY
The Mental Health Therapist II (LCSW or LPC) is responsible for conducting mental health assessments and providing mental health therapy to patients and their families. They are also responsible for completing accurate documentation and ensuring timely billing of services. They assist in the coordination and direction of workflow for designated mental health service line (MHSL) staff to facilitate safe and efficient practices. May function in an on-call capacity as necessary to meet the needs of the organization. Reports to the Mental Health Therapy Manager or Mental Health Site Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provision of Clinical Care
- - Conducts comprehensive mental health evaluations, including assessment of presenting symptoms, chronic medical and mental health conditions, trauma history, disabilities, risk factors, and psychosocial and environmental factors such as primary support group, educational system, social environment, and legal system involvement.
  - Develops clinical plan of care and delivers evidence‑based therapies to children with mental health diagnoses, including those with co‑occurring acute or chronic illness, trauma, or disability, utilizing individual, family, and group modalities.
  - Submits clinical documentation and charges within policy defined timeframes per program in accordance with established guidelines to meet regulatory and reimbursement requirements.
  - Delivers telehealth therapy services when requested by the patient/family or deemed clinically appropriate, per program requirements.
  - Maintains clinical caseload as outlined in productivity expectations as defined in respective policy and based on program guidelines to meet patient access needs.
- Integration of Clinical Care
- - Support process improvement and implementation of new or revised processes.
  - Participates in MHSL committees as requested.
  - Obtains outcome measures, through use of psychometric tools, shares data on patient progress with collaborating care providers, and tracks clinical trends.
  - Participates in coordination efforts with interdisciplinary providers to ensure seamless integration of medical and mental health care.
  - Facilitates transitions along the continuum of care and makes referrals to community-based resources, when needed.
  - Completes peer evaluations to include medical record reviews and chart audits.
- Supervisory Responsibility
- - Coordinates interns, and supervises 1-4 clinical supervisees, residents or practicum/internship students as required.
  - Reviews clinical documentation and charges of supervisee/residents
  - Precepts/trains new hires during onboarding and provides mentorship as needed and requested by leadership
  - Provides clinical education and presentations upon request to staff on various mental health-related topics.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Current Virginia Clinical license.
- Must complete all training requirements that are determined by department leadership, such as MATCH and any other evidence-based training offered.
- Certification in any of the below evidenced-based modalities preferred, advanced training in modalities also considered: Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Family Based Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa (FBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
- Supervisory Certification from the Virginia Board of Counseling or Social Work obtained within 6 months.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Graduate of an accredited college or university with a master's degree in social work, Counseling, Mental Health or related field.
- Preferred five to seven years of post-license experience with children and adolescents. Experience implementing evidence-based treatments with children and families.
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to work as a multidisciplinary team member.
- Increased Security Clearance Required for Job Roles in Children’s Pavilion: FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services registry search.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Frequent exposure to communicable disease and moderately adverse working conditions due to performance of certain patient care activities.
