Our programs aim to provide the community with the tools, knowledge, and resources to transform their lives and ultimately achieve their long-term educational, career, and financial goals. These holistic programs and services reach more than 8,000 individuals and families annually in five languages. Programs include: early childhood education, youth mentorship and leadership development, employment services, career readiness training, housing and financial stability, senior citizen services, affordable housing and neighborhood development, and arts and cultural events. Our work expands beyond the Fruitvale district and now reaches across Oakland and into Concord. The Unity Council employs a diverse workforce of more than 250 people who reflect the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identity of the communities we serve.
Department Summary
The Community Programs department offers a comprehensive suite of integrated services aimed at eliminating barriers to attain and sustain equitable health, social, educational, housing, and economic outcomes. We serve youth, adults, and seniors through services that include: 1) school-based achievement and mentoring in middle and high schools and youth workforce development; 2) food security, housing access, and financial capability; and 3) services dedicated to enhancing the well-being of low-income residents and seniors. We deliver culturally rooted, multi-lingual services, providing vital support to residents in Oakland and throughout Alameda County.
Position SummaryThe Unity Council is seeking a dedicated Resident Services Coordinator to provide resident support across multiple affordable housing properties, including 36th Avenue Properties and Casa Sueños. In this role, the Coordinator will assess resident needs, develop and/or identify programming, provide resources, and connect residents to essential services. This position plays a key role in fostering community cohesion, enhancing service utilization, and addressing the needs of residents at these locations. This is an on-site position. Responsibilities
- Foster a positive atmosphere for all residents by promoting available services and programs effectively.
- Prioritize housing retention referrals and Property Management referrals to resolve resident issues and ensure a healthy and safe living environment.
- Evaluate resident needs and goals, providing tailored support and follow-up to ensure effective service delivery and goal attainment.
- Connects residents to essential community resources, including health and wellness services, financial or rental assistance, food security programs, transportation options, and more.
- Design and deliver community-building activities, events, and workshops that address residents’ needs, enhance engagement, and improve job readiness, barrier removal, and employability through.
- Provide assistance to residents by identifying financial and employment needs, offering coaching, helping with job applications, and connecting them to relevant financial and career services.
- Collect and manage data, track resident progress, and assist with reporting and administrative tasks as needed.
- Actively coordinate with other organizations, businesses and City agencies to offer social, educational and health/wellness opportunities. Coordinate food bank orders and shopping for residents.
- Assist the Resident Services Manager in tracking expenses according to organizational policies.

Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with low-income families or individuals as a case manager, counselor, educator or service navigator in social services, housing navigation services, or community development.
- Preferred 2 years’ experience working in residential programs including shelters, transitional housing, or other residential facilities for youth and adults strongly preferred.
- Demonstrate excellent track record of exceeding expectations in current or prior employment, strong professional judgement, and achieving outcomes.
- Experience in affordable housing or knowledge of Fair Housing Law is a plus.
- Knowledge of various systems and providers in Alameda County is strongly preferred, including health services, financial assistance programs, County social services, wrap around services, etc.
- High level of interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse population of cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds, and persons with disabilities
- Have reliable attendance, be dependable, resourceful, and follow through with resident requests
- Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a team setting
- Bilingual in Spanish is required.
Essential Functions
- Intermediate computer skills with experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopier, fax, etc.)
- Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk
- Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment
- Must be able climb stairs, reach, bend, lift 15-00 pounds, crawl, kneel, stoop, and twist
