About This Position
Civil Service Commission
Assist the Civil Service Commission with an impartial disciplinary hearing and other investigations.
- Fundamental principles and practices of Human Resources administration including civil service laws, employment/personnel, and fiscal practices.
- Principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiations.
- Board of Equalization petition process.
- Civil Service laws and rules.
- Public Records Act.
- Time management.
- Organization.
- MS Suite.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals and groups regarding complex or sensitive issues or regulations.
- Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information.
- Analyze, interpret, and apply directives, guidelines, and laws to policies.
- Plan, organize and oversee assigned work programs.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Meet deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- May be required to obtain additional education as required to conduct business functions.

- Associate Degree in public administration, human resources, or related field.
- Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in Human Resources.
- Additional years of experience may substitute year for year for education.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
Experience with Civil Service Commissions and/or Boards of Equalization.

Work is performed in an office environment while sitting or standing at a computer or desk operating general office equipment. May move up to twenty (20) pounds. Position requires mental acuity to ensure thorough analysis of situations in a fast-paced environment. Required to maintain confidentiality of information within the department. May be required to deal with shifting or conflicting priorities, interests and difficult situations requiring the use of conflict management and facilitation skills. Frequently required to perform work in confidence and under pressure for deadlines, and maintain professional composure and tact, patience, and courtesy. May be required to attend events/meetings in the evenings and on weekends.
