Data Center Design Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Center Design Lead based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of AI infrastructure by leading the design and delivery of advanced data center environments.
You will serve as the technical authority for large-scale facility design, supporting high-density computing workloads and rapid infrastructure expansion.
The position combines hands-on engineering expertise with strategic leadership across electrical, mechanical, networking, and construction disciplines.
You will collaborate with internal infrastructure teams, external engineering partners, and construction stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable, and efficient facilities.
This is a high-impact opportunity to influence modern AI data center architecture, sustainability initiatives, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will thrive in an innovative environment where ownership, technical depth, and continuous improvement drive meaningful results.

Accountabilities:

The Data Center Design Lead will own the end-to-end design strategy for new data center builds and expansions, ensuring facilities are optimized for performance, scalability, reliability, and future AI infrastructure demands.

  • Lead the complete data center design lifecycle, from initial requirements definition through construction support and operational handover.
  • Translate business, hardware, and workload requirements into detailed facility specifications covering power, cooling, networking, and physical infrastructure.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for electrical, mechanical, and architectural design teams.
  • Manage external consultants, engineering partners, and construction firms to ensure designs meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Define high-density power strategies, including rack power requirements, redundancy models, and UPS configurations.
  • Lead cooling architecture decisions, including air cooling, liquid cooling, and immersion cooling approaches for advanced computing environments.
  • Partner with hardware and network teams to ensure facility layouts support connectivity, cabling, GPU cluster deployment, and future expansion.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, building codes, safety requirements, fire protection systems, and physical security guidelines.
  • Establish documentation standards, design templates, and repeatable processes to accelerate future deployments.
  • Evaluate emerging data center technologies and drive improvements in efficiency, sustainability, reliability, and operational performance.
  • Monitor key infrastructure metrics such as power and water efficiency to continuously optimize facility performance.
  • Support commissioning activities and ensure smooth transition from construction phases into operations.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience designing complex data center environments, strong engineering expertise, and the ability to lead technical teams and stakeholders through large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • 12+ years of experience in data center design, engineering, and infrastructure development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Deep expertise across electrical, mechanical, and architectural aspects of data center design.
  • Proven experience leading technical design teams and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts.
  • Strong understanding of high-density data center environments, including GPU-focused infrastructure and advanced cooling technologies.
  • Experience designing facilities that support large-scale computing, AI workloads, or hyperscale environments.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, cooling systems, redundancy strategies, and infrastructure scalability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with construction teams, operations groups, external consultants, and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to make complex technical decisions and influence partners.
  • Experience with data center standards, including industry reliability frameworks, safety requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Preferred experience includes working with hyperscalers, AI infrastructure providers, or rapidly scaling technology environments.
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation package with salary ranges from $90,000 to $220,000 depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and families.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching contributions and immediate vesting.
  • Paid parental leave, including extended support for primary and secondary caregivers.
  • Remote work flexibility with monthly reimbursement support for mobile and internet expenses.
  • Company-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage.
  • Career development opportunities and continuous learning support.
  • Opportunity to work on impactful AI infrastructure projects shaping the future of technology.
  • Collaborative, international environment with talented teams across multiple regions.
  • Flexible and ownership-driven culture focused on innovation and meaningful impact.
