Director of Engineering in Bogart, Georgia at Ulm Automotive LLC

About the Role

ULM Automotive LLC is a newly established manufacturer of premium Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van conversions, operating within the ULM Family Office portfolio. We build on engineering, design, and craftsmanship, delivering standardized production rather than one-off custom projects.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Engineering will build and lead our engineering organization and own the product from concept through production. This is a builder's role in a high-mix, low-volume luxury manufacturer: you will set the technical standards, product architecture, and engineering discipline that turn a design vision into a repeatable, compliant, high-quality vehicle, and you will be on the shop floor as often as at the CAD workstation.

What You Will Do

• Build the Engineering Function: Build and lead the engineering organization, setting technical standards and product architecture.
• Product Development: Lead the full product development lifecycle, from concept through production.
• Systems Integration: Oversee integration of vehicle systems, including mechanical, structural, and electrical components.
• Documentation and Control: Develop engineering documentation, CAD standards, BOMs, and revision control processes.
• Prototype and Validation: Lead prototype development and validation testing.
• Design for Manufacturability: Partner with Operations on Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles.
• Innovation: Evaluate emerging technologies and innovation opportunities.
• Supplier Partnerships: Build supplier relationships for critical components.
• Compliance: Ensure regulatory compliance and Mercedes-Benz upfitter requirements.
• Strategy and Metrics: Establish engineering metrics and a multi-year product roadmap

What We Are Looking For

• 10 to 15 years of progressive engineering experience
• Minimum 5 years leading engineering or product development teams
• Demonstrated success developing products from concept to production
• Experience managing multidisciplinary mechanical, structural, and electrical projects
• Proficiency with CAD systems and engineering documentation
• Experience with BOMs, revision control, and Engineering Change Orders
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly
• Strong project management and communication skills

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering required. Master's in Engineering or MBA preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) designation very desirable but not required.

Preferred Background

Luxury Sprinter conversion or specialty vehicle manufacturing; premium RV, executive transportation, or automotive interiors; marine and yacht, aerospace, or precision coachbuilding. Candidates from adjacent engineered-product industries with product development leadership experience are encouraged to apply.

Compensation

Base salary range of $150,000 to $175,000, plus a competitive executive package including annual incentive and long-term incentives. Relocation assistance available. On-site in Bogart, GA.
