The Backup Specialist will act as a technical reference for enterprise backup environments, focusing on Veeam Backup & Replication architecture, optimization, and reliability.
You will be responsible for designing, improving, and supporting critical data protection solutions while ensuring performance, security, and compliance standards.
The role involves advanced troubleshooting, infrastructure optimization, and collaboration with infrastructure, security, and project teams.
You will work on complex environments involving Microsoft SQL Server, virtualization platforms, storage solutions, and disaster recovery strategies.

As a Backup Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and evolving enterprise backup environments while ensuring operational excellence, availability, and protection of critical workloads.
- Act as the technical reference for Veeam Backup & Replication solutions, supporting architecture decisions, performance improvements, and advanced configurations.
- Administer, maintain, and continuously improve backup environments using Veeam technologies.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and optimization of backup performance, including CPU, proxy, network, target, and repository analysis.
- Diagnose and resolve structural bottlenecks in large-scale backup environments.
- Design, validate, and optimize backup infrastructure sizing, including proxies, repositories, SOBR configurations, tasks, and concurrency settings.
- Implement and maintain protection strategies for Microsoft SQL Server environments, including standalone databases, clusters, AlwaysOn configurations, and application-aware processing.
- Configure and optimize retention policies, including GFS, Synthetic Full, and Active Full strategies.
- Apply best practices for Fast Clone technologies using ReFS and XFS repositories.
- Plan, validate, and execute disaster recovery strategies and periodic recovery tests.
- Ensure compliance with security policies, support technical audits, and maintain proper documentation of architectures, workflows, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and project teams to improve backup reliability and operational processes.
- Support technical evaluations, improvements, and troubleshooting initiatives related to backup platforms.
The ideal candidate has strong experience managing enterprise backup solutions, advanced knowledge of Veeam technologies, and the ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure environments.
- Proven advanced experience with Veeam Backup & Replication in professional environments.
- Experience supporting medium and large-scale backup infrastructures.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server protection, including application-aware backups, SQL clusters, AlwaysOn environments, log backups, and truncation troubleshooting.
- Experience analyzing and resolving Veeam bottlenecks and performance issues.
- Advanced understanding of repository tasks, concurrency management, proxy transport modes (HotAdd, NBD, Direct SAN), Synthetic Full vs Active Full strategies, and SOBR configurations.
- Experience working with enterprise storage environments, including SAN, All-Flash, and NVMe solutions.
- Knowledge of Linux-based repositories, XFS, ReFS, and Fast Clone technologies.
- Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization environments.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and throughput optimization for backup operations.
- Experience with backup environments involving high data volumes and large numbers of virtual machines is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of immutable Linux repositories, object storage solutions such as S3 or Azure Blob, and compliance-focused environments is a plus.
- Veeam certifications such as VMCE or higher are strongly preferred.
