The Software Developer - L5 will provide technical leadership across engineering teams by driving architecture decisions, establishing best practices, and delivering scalable solutions. This role requires a combination of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence teams beyond direct ownership areas.
- Define technical direction, standards, and architectural patterns adopted across multiple engineering teams.
- Design and develop complex distributed systems with a focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives and represent engineering in broader technical and business discussions.
- Architect platform-level solutions, including high-availability systems, cloud infrastructure, and service-oriented architectures.
- Create reusable knowledge through documentation, tooling, engineering practices, and technical guidance.
- Mentor senior developers, support technical growth, and help develop future engineering leaders.
- Drive organization-wide improvements by identifying opportunities, evaluating tradeoffs, and delivering strategic technical initiatives.
- Establish effective approaches for leveraging AI-assisted development tools and AI-powered capabilities while maintaining quality and security standards.
- Promote strong engineering practices through thoughtful code reviews, collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Research emerging technologies, assess their value, and guide adoption of solutions that improve engineering effectiveness.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience designing and delivering large-scale software systems, along with the ability to influence technical strategy across multiple teams. This position requires advanced engineering knowledge, strong leadership skills, and a passion for building innovative and reliable technology solutions.
- Deep expertise in one or more programming languages and ecosystems such as C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python.
- Proven experience architecting distributed systems designed for horizontal scalability and resilience.
- Strong cloud architecture experience with platforms such as Azure and/or AWS, including infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience with event-driven architecture, messaging systems, and distributed systems patterns.
- Advanced API design and security expertise, including OAuth and scalable service integrations.
- Strong data modeling skills with expertise in SQL, relational databases, and evaluating alternative data storage solutions.
- Experience designing CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies such as blue-green deployments, canary releases, and feature flags.
- Knowledge of observability practices, including metrics, logging, tracing, SLIs, and SLOs.
- Experience integrating AI and large language model capabilities into production environments.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and lead technical strategy across multiple teams.
- Strong experience participating in code reviews and providing constructive technical feedback.
- Typical experience includes a Bachelor’s degree with approximately 12 years of experience, a Master’s degree with approximately 8 years, a PhD with approximately 5 years, or equivalent demonstrated technical impact.
- Experience with vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agentic AI patterns is a plus.
- Experience with multi-region architectures, high availability, disaster recovery, UI design systems, integrations, automation, technical writing, or open-source contributions is beneficial.
- Competitive base salary range of $145,000–$225,000, with bonus eligibility.
