The Job
Carney Engineering Construction, Inc. , a trusted underground utility contractor, is seeking a highly skilled, experienced and competent Project Engineer who not only possesses the required skills and qualifications but also has a desire to grow with the business. As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for assisting with estimating potential projects and managing current projects. The ideal candidate should have experience managing multiple projects, assisting in project estimates, project level accounting, project scheduling, change order management, RFIs, submittals, and relationship management. You will be responsible for assisting in overseeing multiple projects from estimate to completion, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing all aspects of the projects, from estimating to project closeout
- Develop and manage project schedules, pay estimates, equipment resources, material and subcontractor coordination to ensure the work is adequately planned and executed
- Engage with construction stake holders, including clients, engineers, inspectors, and utility purveyors to ensure project success and build lasting relationships
- Preconstruction tasks, including submittals, value engineering, constructability review, permit procurement, project buyout to lay the foundation for the crews to build upon
- Project Cost Management including change orders, project invoice processing, cost reporting, and forecasting so that the project cost is accurately accounted and forecasted to make educated decisions that is best for the company.
- Coordinate project resources by communicating crew expectations, collaborating with field supervisors on execution strategies, including material procurement, equipment selection and support resources.
- Provide technical insight
- Lead estimating efforts on all project sizes to ensure accurate and consistent bid results on both Private and Public Works.
- Participate in a bid review to ensure accuracy of the bid
Education:
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration or related field or equivalent work experience in Underground Utility and/or Civil Construction.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in Underground Utility work in either public or private environments.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in construction project management in a civil environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of underground utility work in either Wet or Dry utilities. (Both is a plus)
- Experience estimating underground utility work (HCSS Heavybid is a plus)
- Experience conducting take off (Bluebeam Revu is a plus)
- Base knowledge understanding prevailing wage and labor compliance on a project level
- Maintain ability to work in high production environment.

- Physically lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds
