Job Description

Description: We create exceptional theatre experiences, inspiring generations to explore the wonder of their world.

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is driven in the belief that there is power behind simple acts of kindness. Throughout our work, staff, patrons, and community, we strive to spread kindness wherever we can and to encourage children to act kindly toward others. We are proud to be an organization where a dynamic mix of talented, committed, and enthusiastic people come together to do their best work. As we inspire generations to explore the wonder of our world, we desire to see the unique, amazing, expanding tapestry of this world and community reflected in all our programming, behind the scenes, and in our team members, board and volunteers.

Curtain Up on Your Next Role

Some jobs ask you to sit still. This one asks you to lead the charge in thinking on your feet, reading a room in seconds, and to turn a theatre lobby full of excited kids and their grown-ups into a warm, inviting and delightful experience — every show weekend. If you're energetic, quick to comprehend and problem-solve, and genuinely enjoy working with the public, this job is for you and we want to meet you.

Children's Theatre of Charlotte seeks an extremely confident, personable, reliable, and kind individual to serve as the Lead House Manager — our front-line ambassador to every patron who walks through our doors and guide for our front of house staff and volunteers.

As our next Lead House Manager, you'll take command of the front of house, making sure our audiences enjoy a safe, relaxed, and genuinely pleasant experience from the moment they arrive to the moment the curtain falls. You'll be the calm, capable presence who keeps the whole operation moving, collaborating and coordinating closely with Stage Managers, Volunteer Ushers, Security, and Library Staff to bring every front-of-house detail together seamlessly.

This position offers excellent opportunities for professional growth and expansion. We are seeking a candidate who is eager and willing to master AudienceView, our ticketing system, and handle various administrative duties. Additionally, you will be expected to cross-train for Box Office coverage, allowing you to secure regular additional hours during the peak periods of our season.

Requirements:

What You'll Do...

  • Own the front-of-house experience for weekend and Friday evening performances.
  • Lead and coordinate volunteer ushers, setting the tone for warm, attentive service.
  • Partner with Stage Managers to coordinate house open and curtain times.
  • Serve as the go-to problem-solver for anything that comes up — a lost ticket, a big group of patrons, an unexpected hiccup — and handle it with grace.
  • Ensure the theatre is safe, welcoming, and running smoothly for every patron, every time.
  • Act as the face and voice of Children's Theatre of Charlotte for our audiences.

You are the ideal candidate for this job if you are...

  • A natural leader. You can guide volunteers and coordinate across teams without missing a beat.
  • Fast on your feet. You comprehend quickly and problem-solve on the fly.
  • A team player. You're a positive, collaborative team player who values what others bring to the table -- and enjoys sharing your own expertise too.
  • Tech-comfortable. You pick up new systems quickly and wouldn't blink at learning new software apps.
  • Love live theatre. You're passionate about live theatre and excited to create exceptional theatre experiences for young audiences.
  • Enjoy being a host. You notice the details that keep a space pleasant, safe, and welcoming.
  • Confident and personable. You have a knack for great hospitality and love creating a positive guest experience. Patrons feel instantly at ease around you.
  • Reliable and kind – you have a strong work ethic and communicate clearly. You bring a kind, team-first spirit to everything you do.
