Archetype Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) is seeking an experienced Lead Structured Cabling Technician (Division 27) to oversee field crews performing structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure installations on hyperscale data center projects throughout the United States.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced technician who enjoys leading crews while remaining active in the field. The Lead Technician will be responsible for coordinating daily work, maintaining production schedules, ensuring quality installations, and serving as the primary liaison between the field team and project management.
Division 27 Scope of WorkThe Lead Structured Cabling Technician will oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of telecommunications infrastructure, including:
- Structured copper cabling (Category 5e, Category 6, Category 6A)
- Single-mode and multimode fiber optic backbone installations
- Fiber optic terminations, testing, troubleshooting, and certification
- Rack and Stack of server cabinets, network racks, and telecommunications equipment
- Installation of ladder rack, basket tray, cable tray systems, raceways, conduits, and cable supports
- Horizontal and backbone cable installations
- Telecommunications outlets, modular jacks, faceplates, and patch panels
- Optical Distribution Frames (ODFs), fiber enclosures, splice trays, and cable management systems
- Telecommunications Rooms (TR), Equipment Distribution Areas (EDA), Horizontal Distribution Areas (HDA), and Main Distribution Areas (MDA)
- Wireless infrastructure, including Wi-Fi access points and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS)
- Audio-Visual (AV) systems integrated with network infrastructure, including conference rooms, digital signage, and public address systems
- Cable labeling, documentation, testing, and certification using industry-standard equipment
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, rack elevations, cable schedules, and telecommunications drawings
- Lead and supervise structured cabling crews on active data center construction projects.
- Coordinate daily production and manpower assignments.
- Install, terminate, test, and certify copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Perform quality control inspections and ensure installations meet customer specifications.
- Monitor productivity and maintain project schedules.
- Mentor and train junior technicians.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and customer representatives.
- Troubleshoot installation issues and resolve field challenges.
- Maintain accurate documentation and as-built information.
- Enforce OSHA safety standards and company safety policies.
- Ensure all work complies with TIA/EIA standards, BICSI best practices, and customer requirements.
- 5+ years of structured cabling or Division 27 experience.
- Previous experience leading crews on commercial or data center projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Copper and fiber optic cabling
- Rack & Stack
- Ladder rack and basket tray installation
- Cable management systems
- Telecommunications infrastructure
- Fiber testing and certification
- Ability to read blueprints and telecommunications drawings.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel 100% nationwide.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience on hyperscale data center projects (Microsoft, Meta, AWS, Google, Oracle, etc.)
- BICSI Installer or Technician Certification
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
- Experience with Fluke DSX cable certification testers
- Experience with OTDR, OLTS, fiber certification, and fusion splicing
- Forklift, boom lift, or scissor lift certifications
