Job Description
Position Title: Facilities and Maintenance Custodian
Reports To: Principal
Key Responsibilities
Custodial & Cleaning Duties
- Maintain cleanliness of all interior spaces including classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas
- Ensure facilities are sanitary, safe, and presentable at all times
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting, and waste removal
- Follow proper procedures for the use of cleaning products and equipment
Facilities Maintenance
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures
- Inspect facilities regularly to identify needed repairs, safety concerns, or maintenance issues
- Complete minor repairs (e.g., plumbing fixtures, lighting, furniture, doors, locks, and basic electrical work)
- Perform painting, floor care, and general upkeep projects to maintain the facility’s appearance and function
- Monitor building systems and report major repair needs to administration
Groundskeeping & Exterior Maintenance
- Maintain school grounds including entrances, sidewalks, parking lots, and outdoor areas
- Perform seasonal groundskeeping tasks such as snow removal, salting, leaf removal, and debris cleanup
- Ensure safe access to the building during all weather conditions
- Monitor exterior lighting, walkways, and grounds for safety and functionality
- Assist with minor outdoor repairs (e.g., fencing, exterior fixtures)
Operations & Support
- Set up and arrange furniture and equipment for events, meetings, and school activities
- Respond promptly to facility-related concerns, emergencies, or safety issues
- Maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies; order or request replenishment as needed
- Assist staff and administration in supporting daily school operations
- Secure building and grounds, including locking doors and monitoring access points
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures related to equipment, chemicals, and maintenance work
- Participate in required trainings (e.g., safety, maintenance practices, emergency procedures)
- Identify and respond to safety hazards to ensure a secure environment
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or administration
Requirements:Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in custodial services, facilities maintenance, or building operations preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, maintenance procedures, and equipment operation
- Ability to safely use tools, machinery, and cleaning chemicals
- Strong problem-solving and basic troubleshooting skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks including:
- Lifting up to 75 pounds
- Standing, walking, bending, climbing, and repetitive movement
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and cleanliness
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Successful completion of required background checks and health screenings
