About the Role
The Patient Account Representative/Billing Specialist will serve as the primary patient-facing billing resource. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients with billing and insurance-related questions, processing payments to payoff account balances, resolving account concerns, and supporting the daily financial operations of the center.
In addition to assisting patients in person by addressing billing concerns, this individual will also support CIVIE's centralized Billing Support team by handling inbound billing calls for Heartland Radiology and other assigned clients, as well as completing additional remote billing and administrative duties as assigned.
This position plays an important role in creating a positive patient experience while ensuring accurate, timely, and professional handling of patient financial services.
What You'll Do
On-Site Patient Financial Services
- Serve as the primary billing representative for patients visiting the imaging center
- Assist patients with billing questions, account balances, statements, and payment options
- Establish payment plans in accordance with company policies
- Coordinate with carriers to assist in explaining insurance benefits, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and patient financial responsibility
- Resolve patient billing concerns professionally and compassionately
- Maintain a welcoming and professional presence when assisting patients
Billing & Insurance Support
- Reach out to carriers to assist patients with insurance-related questions and claim status inquiries
- Verify insurance eligibility and patient demographic information
- Submit, update, and refile insurance claims when appropriate
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies
- Work collaboratively with coding, billing, insurance, and revenue cycle teams to resolve complex account issues
- Assist with attorney balance verification and reduction requests as needed
- Support medical billing, coding, and revenue cycle functions when applicable
Call Center Support
- Answer inbound billing calls for Heartland Radiology and other CIVIE clients
- Handle inbound and outbound patient communications professionally and efficiently
- Clearly explain account status, insurance processing, and payment options
- Escalate complex billing concerns appropriately
- Document all patient interactions accurately within company systems
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate patient account documentation
- Perform assigned administrative and operational support tasks
- Assist leadership with special projects and other remote duties as assigned
- Support workflow improvements and departmental initiatives
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and all company privacy and security policies
Required Experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in healthcare customer service, patient accounts, or medical billing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare software applications
- Professional appearance and demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Radiology Billing or Medical Billing
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience with insurance verification, claims processing, and revenue cycle management
- Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
- Experience with patient collections and payment plans

Physical & Work Environment
- On-site position located at Heartland Radiology in Grand Island, Nebraska
- Frequent interaction with patients, physicians' offices, insurance companies, and remote CIVIE team members
- Standard business hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

The pay range for this position is $22.00-$25.00/hour.
