Job Description

About the Role:

The Resource Teacher - Elementary - Special Education plays a critical role in supporting the academic and social development of students with diverse learning needs within an elementary school setting. This position focuses on delivering individualized instruction and interventions tailored to students with disabilities, ensuring they have equitable access to the general education curriculum. The teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that meet state and federal guidelines. Through ongoing assessment and data analysis, the Resource Teacher adapts teaching strategies to promote student progress and independence. Ultimately, this role aims to foster an inclusive learning environment that empowers students to achieve their fullest potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid state teaching certification/license in Special Education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students with diverse disabilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, families, and school staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Experience with assistive technology and differentiated instructional strategies.
  • Training in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or similar behavioral frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Response to Intervention (RTI) models and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and related service providers.
  • Provide direct, small-group, and one-on-one instruction to students with disabilities, adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary based on data and observations.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and classroom environments to support inclusive practices.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities to enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district special education regulations and policies.
  • Support students’ social and emotional development by implementing positive behavioral interventions and supports.

Effective communication skills enable the teacher to collaborate with families, general educators, and specialists to create cohesive support systems.
