Job Description
- Mileage Rate: $0.70 CPM
- Average Miles: 2200-2500 weekly (not guaranteed) *
- Equipment: Late Model with Low Mileage, including 53-foot dry and refrigerated trailers.
- Home each weekend; occasional exceptions
- Consistent Work: Average routes and freight patterns remain consistent from week to week, although locations and schedules may change.
- Additional Pay: Detention
- $80 per full day, following the IRS-approved daily allowance.
- Prorated for partial travel days based on time away from home.
- Drivers must be away from their tax home overnight to qualify.
- Per Diem:
- First 2 hours are free (standard industry allowance).
- After that, detention is paid at $30 per hour.
- Daily maximum detention payout is $180 per day.

Essential Functions of Driver - Class A OTR:
The purpose of the Class A Driver is to safely and efficiently operate commercial motor vehicle in urban, suburban, and rural areas to transport freight. This position is an over the road position with the possibility of delivering to a wide variety of locations in the U.S. The position may require loading and unloading food products to charitable feeding partners and programs. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners’ mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.
- Deliver food for our Fresh Connect program and make direct deliveries of product to distribution sites and agencies as scheduled
- Pick up food donations from various companies
- Provides superior customer service internally and externally.
- Comply with DOT, food safety, company policies, federal, state and local regulations.
- Operate 53’ trailers or straight trucks with refrigeration units.
- Safe operation of equipment.
- On-time deliveries/pick-ups for Fresh Connect Central and Gleaners partner agencies.
- Maintain cleanliness of truck and trailer.
- Maintain proper temps on trailer loads for delivery.
- Complete all necessary forms and paperwork.
- Operate PIT equipment according to Gleaners and OSHA guidelines.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience of Driver - Class A OTR:
- Class A CDL with current and valid DOT medical certificate
- Candidate must have a good driving record
- 1 + years tractor/trailer route delivery experience
- High School Diploma/GED preferred
- Experience with handheld route phone and/or electronic logging devices are desirable
- Knowledge of DOT, state, and federal trucking regulations is required
- Valid driver's license/Clean driving record /3 years of driving experience/Must be insurable by company vehicle insurance provider

- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Reliability & Dependability is especially important for this position
- Ability to read, write, and understand instructions
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with all staff members, agencies, volunteers, and donors
- Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to perform basic math functions, count accurately, and maintain accurate records
- Ability to operate lift gate safely
Work Environment & Physical Demands of Driver - Class A OTR:
- Ability to sit; stand; walk; twist; bend; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
- Ability to speak and hear clearly
- Ability to lift and/or and move 50 lbs. and push/pull 2,000lbs. of product using manual pallet jack regularly.
- Ability to drive with overnight and interstate travel
- Ability to operate electric and manual pallet jacks.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- This position may include in and out of trailers or straight trucks, indoors, outdoors and warehouse
- Hot/Cold Environments
- Moving vehicles and equipment in use
- Verbal and face to face contact with others
- Working environments may consist of dust/dirt/fumes
- Works independently with minimal supervision
*Gleaners schedules routes with the goal of returning drivers home each weekend. Because this is an OTR operation, occasional weekend travel may be required due to route demands, customer needs, weather, equipment issues, or other operating conditions.
