About the RoleThe Outdoor Facilities Technician plays an essential role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and overall condition of Shanty Creek Resorts’ hotel grounds, lodging properties, outdoor facilities, and guest-facing areas.
This hands-on position performs a broad range of outdoor groundskeeping, landscaping, and exterior maintenance duties. Responsibilities may include planting and maintaining flowers and landscaping, lawn care, painting, carpentry, general masonry work, exterior repairs, seasonal cleanup, and other projects that improve the appearance and functionality of the resort.
Working under the direction of the designated Facilities or Maintenance leader, the Outdoor Facilities Technician operates landscaping and maintenance equipment, uses hand and power tools, and assists with outdoor repair and improvement projects throughout the property.
This position is best suited for someone who genuinely enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in completing physical and hands-on work, and is comfortable working outside during changing weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, construction, property maintenance, carpentry, painting, masonry, or a related trade.
- Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, landscaping equipment, and utility vehicles.
- Ability and willingness to work primarily outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and varied schedules as needed.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movement.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned projects with limited supervision.
- Experience maintaining hotel, resort, commercial, residential, recreational, or large-property grounds.
- Experience planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns, and landscaping beds.
- Experience completing basic carpentry, painting, masonry, concrete, or exterior repair projects.
- Basic knowledge of irrigation systems and lawn care practices.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with outdoor maintenance equipment.
- Experience operating mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, skid steers, or similar equipment.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Interest in landscaping, construction, property improvement, or outdoor maintenance.
- Plant, water, weed, prune, trim, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, hanging baskets, planters, and landscaping beds.
- Mow, trim, edge, seed, fertilize, and maintain lawns and other grass-covered areas.
- Apply mulch, soil, stone, seed, fertilizer, and other landscaping materials.
- Remove weeds, leaves, branches, litter, and other debris from resort grounds.
- Maintain the appearance of hotel entrances, walkways, patios, courtyards, parking areas, roadways, and other guest-facing spaces.
- Assist with spring cleanup, fall cleanup, storm cleanup, and other seasonal groundskeeping projects.
- Monitor irrigation systems and assist with minor irrigation adjustments or repairs.
- Identify landscaping, drainage, erosion, or grounds-related concerns and report them to the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform general masonry work, including minor repairs to brick, block, stone, concrete, walkways, retaining walls, curbs, and other exterior surfaces.
- Complete basic carpentry projects, including repairing or constructing fences, railings, stairs, decks, signs, trim, outdoor furniture, and other exterior structures.
- Prepare, paint, stain, seal, and finish exterior surfaces and structures.
- Repair or replace damaged exterior materials as directed.
- Assist with minor concrete preparation, patching, forming, and finishing projects.
- Install, repair, or maintain outdoor signs, fixtures, decorations, barriers, and property features.
- Assist skilled maintenance employees and outside contractors with larger outdoor repair or improvement projects.
- Measure, cut, assemble, and install materials using appropriate tools and established procedures.
- Maintain clean and organized outdoor work areas during and after each project.
- Safely operate lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, pressure washers, and other grounds or maintenance equipment.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and appropriately.
- Perform basic cleaning, inspection, and routine maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
- Report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, repair needs, and supply needs to a supervisor.
- Assist with pressure washing sidewalks, patios, exterior walls, loading areas, and other outdoor surfaces.
- Support snow removal, ice control, and winter property maintenance when assigned.
- Assist with the placement, removal, and maintenance of outdoor furniture, seasonal displays, decorations, and event materials.
- Support the setup and cleanup of outdoor resort events, activities, and special projects.
- Inspect outdoor areas and address or report conditions that may affect guest or employee safety.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Use proper lifting techniques and safe work practices when handling materials and equipment.
- Place appropriate warning signs, cones, barriers, or other controls around active work areas.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, guests, and other resort departments.
- Protect guest areas, landscaping, buildings, and resort property while completing work.
- Complete additional outdoor maintenance, landscaping, facilities, and property improvement duties as assigned by management.
- Strong preference for and willingness to work outdoors.
