Sr Prncpl Eng Supplier Quality

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Principal Engineer, Supplier Quality based in the United States.

This role is a senior-level supplier quality engineering position focused on ensuring aerospace and defense suppliers meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and regulatory compliance.
You will act as a key technical authority, driving supplier quality assurance across complex manufacturing environments and high-risk programs.
The position involves leading audits, supplier evaluations, and advanced quality engineering activities across multiple production stages and locations.
You will be responsible for strengthening supplier capabilities through structured quality systems, process controls, and continuous improvement methodologies.
The role requires close collaboration with procurement, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure alignment on technical and contractual requirements.
You will also play a critical role in risk mitigation, corrective actions, and supplier development initiatives.
This is a highly impactful role within a mission-driven environment where precision and reliability directly support national defense and aerospace systems.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead supplier quality risk management activities by developing and implementing evaluation, monitoring, and control systems across assigned suppliers.
  • Ensure supplier compliance with contractual, regulatory, and technical requirements through audits, inspections, and performance monitoring.
  • Conduct product and process verification activities, including root cause analysis and corrective action management (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa).
  • Oversee supplier quality planning across program phases, including new product introduction (NPI), production readiness, and ongoing manufacturing.
  • Lead supplier evaluations, qualifications, and selection processes for new and existing procurement programs.
  • Drive implementation of quality tools such as PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, capability studies, and mistake-proofing methodologies.
  • Manage supplier non-conformances, including waivers, deviations, and discrepancies, while maintaining leadership visibility on risk status.
  • Collaborate with procurement and engineering teams to develop supplier capability, including sub-tier supplier oversight and special process control.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering preferred) with 8+ years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or engineering; or Master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 Quality Management Systems and AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and complex technical documentation.
  • Experience leading supplier audits, production readiness reviews, and new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Strong background in supplier quality management, including risk-based inspection planning and control strategy development.
  • Hands-on experience with structured problem-solving methodologies such as SCAR, CAPA, 8D, and root cause analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of precision manufacturing processes including machining, casting, stamping, heat treatment, and special processes.
  • Experience working with NADCAP/PRI special process environments and supplier oversight in regulated industries is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with APQP and PPAP methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to operate in complex, multi-site environments.
  • U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is preferred.
