Digital Media & Data Strategy Specialist (Subject Matter Expert I)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Digital Media & Data Strategy Specialist (Subject Matter Expert I) based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the digital presence of leading scientific programs by transforming complex data and research into accessible, impactful online experiences.
The ideal candidate will combine expertise in digital strategy, analytics, content management, and information architecture to improve how audiences discover and engage with scientific resources.
You will oversee digital platforms, develop content strategies, analyze performance insights, and ensure high-quality communication across multiple channels.
This position requires a blend of technical knowledge, creative thinking, and strong attention to detail to support mission-driven science communication.
You will collaborate with scientists, communication specialists, and technical teams to create digital experiences that inform stakeholders and increase public engagement.
This is a fully remote opportunity for a digital strategy professional who enjoys managing complex projects in a collaborative environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Coordinate, maintain, and configure layouts for public-facing digital platforms, webpages, and online resources while providing recommendations for design, structure, and scientific content presentation.
  • Develop information architectures, content templates, style guide frameworks, and storyboards that improve usability, consistency, and discoverability.
  • Manage and publish digital content, including written materials, videos, images, graphics, and multimedia assets across websites, portals, and social channels.
  • Monitor website and platform analytics to evaluate audience engagement, content performance, and digital reach while providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Create Content Management Plans and technical tracking strategies to ensure content quality, compliance, and alignment with organizational requirements.
  • Support data interoperability, machine readability, metadata standards, discovery protocols, and digital data management strategies.
  • Analyze digital performance data to generate audience insights and develop actionable recommendations for content and platform optimization.
  • Lead project teams focused on digital and data strategy initiatives while providing quality reviews and guidance on deliverables.
  • Ensure digital materials maintain visual consistency, accessibility standards, and compliance with Section 508 requirements.
  • Collaborate with communication teams and scientific experts to align digital content with program priorities, messaging, and stakeholder needs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or related discipline such as Digital Communications, Information Science, Web Design, Science Communications, Environmental Science, or a similar field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional and/or academic experience in digital strategy, communications, content management, data analysis, or related areas.
  • Experience managing and updating public-facing websites or digital platforms, including CMS administration with tools such as WordPress, Drupal, or equivalent systems.
  • Knowledge of website information architecture, content planning, style guides, and digital storytelling practices.
  • Experience using web analytics platforms to collect, analyze, and interpret performance metrics to guide content decisions.
  • Understanding of federal data management practices, metadata frameworks, open-data standards, and machine-readable content requirements is preferred.
  • Experience developing Content Management Plans or digital tracking strategies for science, government, or large-scale organizations is a plus.
  • Proficiency with digital design and content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility standards and federal web publishing guidelines.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain high-quality content within a recurring publishing schedule.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a low-risk federal security clearance.
