At Merrimack Health, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. The base salary range is $200.00 to $300.00 hourly, excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.
Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth.
Merrimack Health is the newly unified regional health system formed through the 2024 integration of Lawrence General Hospital with the Holy Family Hospitals (Methuen and Haverhill campuses). As of October 1, 2024, these three campuses operate together as one coordinated, mission-driven system: Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital, Merrimack Health Haverhill Hospital and Merrimack Health Methuen Hospital.

Position Overview
Merrimack Health system is seeking an Physician/Nocturnist in Emergency Medicine to join our growing team that provides state of the art emergency care to the population of the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire.
Emergency Medicine Team:
The Emergency Medicine team includes over 30 Emergency Physicians and APPs as part of an integrated department. Emergency Physicians in the LGH and HFH Emergency Center bring administrative and quality support in the fields of EMS, Ultrasound, International Emergency Medicine, Wilderness Medicine, and Quality and Patient Safety. Family Medicine Residents from the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center also rotate through the LGH Emergency Center. Both campuses are on the same EHR.
Primary Qualifications and Responsibilities:
- Regular Schedule: 32 or 28 hours per week, working 2 weekends per month.
- Nocturnist Role working the overnight shifts. Significant shift and pay differential. Nocturnists have significant control over their schedule.
- Option A. 28 Hours Per Week working 1 Weekend.
- Option B. 24 Hours Per Week working 2 Weekends.
- Minimum of MD, DO, or foreign medical equivalent.
- Successful completion of an Emergency Medicine residency program
- Eligible for full unrestricted licensure to practice in Massachusetts.
- BC/BE in Emergency Medicine (ABEM/AOBEM)
- Physician time will be allocated between the HFH EDs and LGH ED depending on clinical needs and provider preference.
- Active ACLS and PALS certification required. Once board certified, physicians must maintain active board certification and provide evidence of prior ACLS and PALS certification.

The Lawrence Hospital Emergency Center is a 41 bed Emergency Room that serves 67,000 visits annually. Features of the Emergency Center include 3 expanded trauma/resuscitation rooms, a dedicated area for CT and X-ray, ED Observation Unit, dedicated Behavioral Health team, and a newly expanded Vertical Area for patient care.
Merrimack Health Methuen and Haverhill (formerly Holy Family Hospital) is a 310-bed full service, acute care hospital with two campuses located in Methuen and Haverhill, Massachusetts. We provide expert care in orthopedics, wound care, women’s health, cardiovascular services, stroke, and behavioral health. The Methuen campuses offers inpatient medical/surgical units, advanced ICU capabilities (Methuen), Ob/Gyn, and specialized psychiatric care. Haverhill is transitioning to become a satellite ED on October 1st and will continue to offer 24/7 emergency services including advanced imaging.
- Methuen ED: Serving more than 35,000 visits annually, the Methuen Emergency Department is a busy, full-service ED staffed with emergency physicians and advanced practice providers.
- Haverhill ED: A community-focused department with over 18,000 annual visits, the Haverhill Emergency Department provides high-quality, patient-centered emergency care, supported by a collaborative and collegial team. Haverhill is transitioning to become a satellite ED on October 1st and will continue to offer 24/7 emergency services including advanced imaging.

All departments operate on a shared Meditech electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring seamless care and coordination across campuses.
