This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Air Quality Specialist based in Canada.
This is a senior technical role within an Air Permitting and Compliance service line, supporting complex environmental projects across Western Canada.
You will provide technical leadership across air quality assessments, regulatory permitting, emissions quantification, and dispersion modelling.
The role spans diverse sectors including oil and gas, mining, power generation, petrochemicals, infrastructure, and midstream operations.
You will work on projects ranging from regulatory applications and compliance strategies to environmental impact assessments and incident response.
The position combines technical delivery with project management, client engagement, mentoring, and business development.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, technicians, physicists, and chemists.

- Provide technical expertise and leadership for regulatory permit applications, air quality assessments, compliance strategies, and related environmental projects.
- Perform air emissions calculations across a range of industrial sectors, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions quantification and annual reporting.
- Conduct dispersion modelling assessments using AERMOD and, where applicable, other modelling tools for permitting, environmental impact assessment, and incident assessment scenarios.
- Review technical project content, methodologies, and strategies to ensure high-quality, accurate, and defensible deliverables.
- Support complex modelling assessments such as acid deposition and visibility modelling for environmental impact assessments.
- Interpret applicable federal and provincial regulations, legislation, permitting requirements, and compliance standards across Western Canada.
- Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, technical deliverables, and client expectations across projects of varying size and complexity.
- Prepare technical correspondence, proposals, work plans, cost estimates, reports, and other project documentation.
- Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary internal teams, including engineers, environmental scientists, technicians, physicists, and chemists.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to junior and intermediate team members.
- Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities with existing and prospective clients and expanding the scope of environmental services.
- Promote a strong safety culture and contribute to continuous professional and technical development.
- Identify project risks and proactively develop solutions to maintain quality, timelines, budgets, and client commitments.
- 10+ years of professional experience in regulatory compliance and permitting in Western Canada, with a strong focus on air quality regulatory assessments, reporting, dispersion modelling, permitting, and compliance strategy.
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Professional registration with a Canadian engineering licensing board, or the ability to obtain the relevant designation, is an asset.
- Strong expertise in air emissions quantification, including annual GHG reporting and Emissions Performance Standards (EPS).
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with AERMOD dispersion modelling software is required.
- Experience with additional modelling tools such as CALPUFF, MOVES, PHAST, or ALOHA is an asset.
- Proven experience delivering dispersion modelling assessments for Environmental Impact Assessments, including areas such as acid deposition and visibility.
- Strong understanding of federal and provincial environmental regulations, permitting frameworks, and legislation relevant to Western Canada.
- Demonstrated ability to provide sound technical strategy and deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and business development activities simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of prioritizing competing deadlines effectively.
- Strong collaborative, leadership, mentoring, and client-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required, with a valid and unrestricted Canadian driver’s license.
- Must be located in Western Canada.
- Competitive salary: $90,000–$140,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and geographic location.
