Summary

The Plant Engineering Technician (Production) is a technician-level role that supports plant-wide manufacturing operations and Plant Engineering objectives. This role executes process monitoring, data collection, approved adjustments, first-level troubleshooting, documentation support, training support, and implementation of standard work and continuous improvements under engineering guidance. Relevant areas and equipment include, but are not limited to, Heat Treat Oven, Mixing, Extrusion, and Assembly. This will be a 12-hour night shift role operating from 7PM to 7AM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor process performance and trends; execute routine process checks and approved parameter adjustments within established procedures to maintain safe, stable operations and product quality.

• Collect, record, verify, and communicate process data, run records, logs, spreadsheets, and shift-to-shift status updates.

• Perform first-level troubleshooting of process and equipment issues; gather facts, samples, and observations to support root cause investigations; escalate concerns requiring engineering review.

• Support engineering trials and experiments by preparing materials and equipment, collecting samples and data, documenting observations, and following approved test plans.

• Help implement and sustain engineer-defined process changes, standard work, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities.

• Maintain and update SOPs, work instructions, checklists, run records, and other manufacturing documentation under engineering guidance; support document control activities.

• Coordinate or support preventive maintenance activities and confirm equipment readiness following maintenance events.

• Train and coach operators and technicians on standard work, process checks, data collection, best practices, and process controls; support qualification sign-off as required.

• Assist Process and Plant Engineers with new product introductions, process changes, qualifications, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

• Support corrective actions by documenting issues, completing assigned actions, verifying completion, and monitoring for recurrence.

• Provide flexible support across manufacturing, including after-hours availability when needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, science, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on manufacturing or technical experience.

• 2-5 years of technical experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Experience following documented process controls, recognizing abnormal conditions, and escalating appropriately.

• Experience collecting, recording, interpreting, and communicating process data; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability.

• Ability to support troubleshooting, trials, documentation, and corrective actions while working under engineering guidance.

• Strong organization, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Experience with industrial ovens or kilns, mixing, extrusion, assembly, chemical dipping or activation, or related plant processes.

• Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as root cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Experience with statistical and process analysis tools such as Minitab or equivalent.

• Experience training or mentoring others in a manufacturing environment.

• Experience with FANUC robotics, automated equipment operation, troubleshooting, or teach pendant use.

• Experience with PLC programming or basic logic troubleshooting.

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variation.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing and walking.

• Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.
