    InterCare is searching for a Full-Time OB GYN Medical Assistant to join our team! At InterCare, you’ll find a rewarding and challenging work environment and a competitive compensation.     Work Schedule:

    Monday - Friday 7:45 am to 5:00 pm with an occasional need for evening coverage. NO HOLIDAYS! NO WEEKENDS!

    • This position is an exciting opportunity to become a go-to resource within the clinical support team.
    • The Medical Assistant within this role will be supporting various Providers throughout the clinic as needed; potential for travel to alternative InterCare sites for coverage as needed.
    • Responsible for performing select clinical and administrative duties as delegated by the licensed physician, in accordance with InterCare policies and procedures; actively participates as a member of the patient care team.

    Description of Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    1. Responsible for performing high level MA functions
      1. Performs OB screenings and educates patients as requested by provider, and within the scope of InterCare standing orders. Will consult providers with any questions.
      2. Preps for daily OB and family planning appointments; checks for and obtains all documents needed for the patient visit: hospital/ER visits, MCIR, labs, diagnostics, and specialist reports. Follows up with phone call as needed to obtain documents and updates electronic record appropriately.
      3. Works in collaboration with the provider and other care team members, as well as MFM protocols, to ensure necessary tests, referrals, and medications are ordered/scheduled based on current weeks of gestation and/or desired family planning method.
      4. Performs clinical procedures within scope as competency assessed and appropriate for position, e.g. NST.
      5. Responsible for patient phone calls and walk-ins; Remains alert to and communicates information regarding potentially high-risk situations or unsafe patient conditions directly to the provider.
      6. Documents OB deliveries and closes out OB chart after patient discharges; Sends actions to billing.
    1. Supports clinical workflow
      1. In the electronic record selects the Holland OB facility and schedules OB patient appointments, including follow-up appointments and rescheduling no show appointments.
      2. Conducts eligibility determination, enrollment into MI Bridges, Healthy Michigan Plan, and follows-up with uninsured OB patients.
      3. Reviews pay source information to ensure it is up to date and verified online at time of the patient visit.
      4. On a daily basis checks Cerner system, prints delivery report, and participates in the OB huddle to review the patient schedule.
      5. Handles paper and electronic document flow such as inbound and outbound faxing related to updates in the prenatal record, e.g. to Boven Birth: birth plans, nitrous, IOL consents, BPS forms.
      6. Helps identify patient flow problems and takes initiative in their solution, including providing MA support to provider teams in need.
      7. Schedules outside diagnostic testing.
      8. Administers immunizations and other medications as appropriate to position according to policy and procedures; maintains standards of Medication Storage and Handling.
      9. Performs in house laboratory testing following InterCare policy and procedure.
    1. Performs other duties as assigned to support OB/GYN clinics
      1. Manages reports such as OB patient list, Open Diagnostics and work with Abnormal Pap log team to maintain records.
      2. Orders, tracks, and stocks IUD/Nexplanon devices.
      3. Assembles OB patient packets.
      4. Provides accurate English/Spanish interpretation for verbal exchanges and acts as a cultural mediator and patient advocate as it relates to communication barriers.

    Professional and Technical Knowledge

    • Possesses a strong knowledge of clinical practices as acquired through formal training, including a certificate MA program, or associate’s degree in medical assisting.
    • Certified by accredited certification body –or- qualifies to test and obtains passing score within 180 days of hire.
    • Must have or complete NST training within 90 days of hire.
    • Maintains BLS requirement. BLS is a mandatory by InterCare and our FTCA agreement with the Federal Government. It must be completed within 90 days of hire.
    • Must have or complete MI Bridges training for Mom’s enrollment.
    • Proficient in customer service and professionalism.
    • Thorough working knowledge of prevailing standards of care in women’s health, InterCare’s clinical guidelines, and patient care policies and procedures.
    • Meets all Safety and regulatory requirements to include but not limited to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals, Infection Control, OSHA and annual competencies.
    • Completes all annual competencies.

    Technical Skills

    • Proficient in EHR and EPM.
    • Ability to use and respond to e-mail.
    • Ability to use other InterCare desktop tools, including Safety Zone, RELIAS, and iTAC.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
    • Ability to perform data entry, run reports and operate common office equipment.
    • Proficient in the use of phone, fax, scanning equipment needed to perform duties as assigned.

    Communication Skills

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate in a clear effective manner.
    • Possesses excellent cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff members at all levels.

    Physical Demands

    Job duties are performed in the typical office environment of the organization, which requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations. The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:

    • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift up to 25 lbs
    • Ability to maneuver in clinic environment and frequently sit to work at computer.
    • Requires good hand-eye coordination, reach with arms & hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and manipulate (using keyboard, office equipment)
    • Visual acuity to use keyboard, operate office equipment, and read printed material
    • Auditory acuity regularly required to talk and hear when in conversation or on phone
