This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engineering Manager - Payments Integrations based in Germany.
Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for connecting a global payments platform with PSPs, acquirers, and payment gateways worldwide.
You will own the technical direction and delivery of critical payment integrations that support international expansion.
The role combines people leadership with hands-on technical ownership across architecture, development, deployment, and production operations.
You will help shape scalable, low-latency, highly available backend systems and integration frameworks used across multiple markets.
Working closely with Product, Compliance, and Business teams, you will translate a fast-moving roadmap into reliable technical solutions.
You will also champion AI-assisted engineering practices, embedding modern development and testing tools into the team's daily workflows.

Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering technical excellence, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Hire, mentor, coach, and support engineers at different levels through clear expectations, regular feedback, and structured development.
Own the full lifecycle of integrations with payment service providers, acquirers, and payment gateways, from technical design through deployment and production monitoring.
Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture design, code reviews, complex troubleshooting, and technical decision-making.
Establish and maintain engineering standards covering coding practices, testing, observability, documentation, and maintainability.
Ensure secure software development practices are embedded across the team, including OWASP principles, data privacy, and relevant compliance requirements.
Guide architectural decisions for low-latency, highly available backend systems and microservice-based architectures.
Drive the evolution of APIs and integration frameworks that can scale across countries, payment methods, and providers.
Champion an AI-first engineering culture by establishing effective practices for AI-assisted development, code generation, and automated testing.
Partner closely with Product, Compliance, Business, and other stakeholders to deliver against a rapidly evolving roadmap.
Balance technical priorities, business requirements, team capacity, and delivery timelines in a fast-moving environment.
Promote agile ways of working that are practical, adaptable, and effective for the team.
Monitor production performance and help ensure the reliability, scalability, security, and quality of payment integrations.
Proven experience managing and growing engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to make architectural decisions and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Significant hands-on backend engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Golang or a comparable programming language.
8+ years of hands-on production experience with Go (Golang) is required.
Strong understanding of microservices, event-driven architectures, APIs, and modern integration patterns.
Experience working with SQL and relational databases.
Solid knowledge of secure software development practices and OWASP principles.
Experience establishing or championing AI-first engineering practices, including AI-assisted coding, automated testing, and LLM-powered code generation using tools such as Claude Code or similar.
Experience working in agile engineering environments and adapting processes based on team needs and practical outcomes.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Full professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
Experience in the payments industry or working with PSP integrations is an advantage.
Hands-on experience with cloud and DevOps technologies such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes is preferred.
