We are looking for a Swing Shift Wastewater Technician to join our team in the Portland area. The Wastewater Technician will be responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operation and maintenance repair tasks for waste water equipment including, pump, motors, valves, chemical feed systems, piping, boiler room and control panels in order to ensure plant processing and efficiency is sustained and regulatory compliance is met.

Schedules are typically Monday - Friday, 10:00pm - 6:30am

Starting pay is $29/hour + $0.50 shift differential

Responsibilities

• Operate the waste water system within permit limits set by the applicable regulatory agencies
• Lead the company’s compliance program while partnering with members of the maintenance and operations team to ensure environmental requirements are being met
• Maintain the waste water treatment system and surrounding areas within food safety and regulatory agency compliance
• Operate the waste water pretreatment equipment ensuring discharge water quality is within all
permit limits set by the start and company.
• Ensure proper treatment and dispensing of chemicals to maintain acceptable water quality
• Order pretreatment chemicals and parts for waste water pretreatment system. Track inventory of chemicals on a weekly basis
• Conduct and document the necessary inspections and corrective action in order to maintain the plant clean and sanitary
• Ensure pumps/sumps tied to wastewater system are clean, inspected, locked, maintained and logs are reviewed and properly managed

• Ensure monitoring compliance with regulatory agencies
• Ensures outside drivers loading out sludge, food scrap, waste water, and recovered oil follow appropriate procedures. • • • Collects paperwork and submits timely
• Perform preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, float switches, ph probes, etc.
• Repair and replace equipment as needed.
• Control inventory of critical spare parts and track min/max of parts
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Will also manage the backup waste water position
• Employee Safety Responsibilities:
• Report all injuries, unsafe conditions, unsafe acts and horseplay
• Use proper lifting techniques
• Use mechanical assistance (handjack, forklift, manlift)
• Use personal assistance (buddy)
• Use handrails
• Use and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)



Qualifications

• Familiarity with plumbing of water serviced electrical and engineering principles
• Working knowledge of pumps and motors
• Ability to perform inspections, testing and repair of waste processing systems
• Knowledge of Lockout-Tagout, are flash, confined space entry practices and procedures and ability to participate in our respiratory protection program
• Ability to evaluate and interpret process and engineering related drawings and specifications
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use a computerized maintenance system.

Education, Certifications and Experience
An equivalent combination of experience and education will also be considered.
Education:
High School or GED
Experience:
2+ years of experience in industrial waste water operations, to include experience and familiarity with chemical and mechanical waste treatment techniques, systems and technologies
Certifications:
Wastewater operator must possess or acquire Wastewater Treatment-B or higher certification
within 1 year of hire and Water Distribution Level II (DSI II)
