Business Development Director, Ting Data Services

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Development Director, Ting Data Services based in the United States.

This is a high-impact business development leadership role focused on creating and scaling new markets for differentiated real-world data and intelligence.
You will develop growth strategies across utilities, public safety, government, commercial, and insurance markets.
The role combines direct enterprise selling with strategic partnership development, giving you ownership from market discovery through contract execution.
You will translate complex telemetry, analytics, APIs, and data products into compelling solutions tied to measurable customer outcomes.
You will navigate sophisticated buying environments involving executive, technical, operational, procurement, legal, security, and policy stakeholders.
Success will require an entrepreneurial mindset, strong commercial judgment, technical fluency, and the ability to turn early opportunities into repeatable revenue channels.
Reporting to senior sales and business development leadership, you will also help shape products, partnerships, and market strategies as the business expands.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and execute vertical growth strategies across electric utilities, state and local public safety, federal government, commercial enterprises, and insurance markets, identifying priority use cases, buyers, routes to market, and revenue opportunities.
  • Generate, qualify, advance, negotiate, and close new business opportunities while maintaining accountability for revenue targets, sales-cycle progression, and conversion from initial engagement to signed contracts.
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships with technology providers, consulting firms, data companies, systems integrators, and go-to-market organizations that can incorporate data solutions into broader offerings or expand access to target customers.
  • Lead consultative and solution-based selling by understanding customer priorities, developing compelling use cases, quantifying value, and aligning appropriate data products, delivery models, commercial structures, and implementation approaches.
  • Navigate complex enterprise and public-sector purchasing processes involving executives, operational leaders, technical teams, procurement, security, legal, and policy stakeholders.
  • Manage pilots, proposals, RFPs, government procurement requirements, negotiations, and contracting processes through to successful completion.
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline management through accurate CRM records, opportunity plans, forecasts, activity tracking, risk identification, next steps, and expected revenue reporting.
  • Build strong relationships with prospects, customers, and partners while representing the organization at customer and industry engagements and traveling as business needs require.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Legal, Operations, and executive leadership to develop proposals, support customer diligence, prioritize market opportunities, and convert market feedback into scalable offerings.
  • Identify successful use cases and early customer wins that can be transformed into repeatable sales plays, partnerships, and sustainable growth strategies.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in enterprise sales, business development, strategic partnerships, solution selling, or a closely related commercial function, with a demonstrated record of building pipeline and closing complex B2B, public-sector, or data-services opportunities.
  • Strong experience in one or more relevant verticals, such as electric utilities, state and local public safety, federal government, commercial enterprises, or insurance, with the ability to establish credibility across additional markets.
  • Proven market-builder mindset, including the ability to enter emerging categories, identify high-value use cases and buyers, test routes to market, create demand, and convert early wins into repeatable growth.
  • Experience selling data products, analytics platforms, APIs, SaaS, enterprise software, or technical integrations, with the ability to translate technical capabilities into clear business outcomes.
  • Strong technical and data fluency, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical stakeholders and executive decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles, develop account and opportunity strategies, create persuasive proposals and business cases, and maintain momentum through ambiguity.
  • Experience developing and activating channel, solution, and go-to-market partnerships, including joint value propositions, commercial structures, roles, enablement, and customer pursuit strategies.
  • Strong executive presence, communication, organization, resilience, and follow-through, with the ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Entrepreneurial approach and strong business judgment, with a demonstrated willingness to take ownership of results and develop new markets from the ground up.
Benefits
  • Meaningful impact: Help bring innovative data-driven solutions to markets focused on electrical safety, grid reliability, emergency response, infrastructure resilience, risk management, and property protection.
  • Market-building opportunity: Help create and establish a new category while shaping commercial strategy, customer use cases, and strategic partnerships.
  • Career growth: Join a fast-growing organization offering significant opportunities for professional development and increased responsibility.
  • Competitive compensation: Receive competitive compensation aligned with the scope and impact of the role.
  • Comprehensive benefits: Access a benefits package designed to support employees and their needs.
  • Entrepreneurial environment: Work with a passionate team where ownership, initiative, strategic thinking, and meaningful contributions are valued.
  • Cross-functional exposure: Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Legal, Operations, and executive leadership.
  • Purpose-driven work: Contribute to technology designed to help protect families, homes, businesses, and communities from the devastating effects of electrical fires.
