Position Type: Non-Certified Support Staff
Reports To: Principal/Designee
The Student Support Assistant helps maintain a safe, orderly, and positive school environment by providing visible adult supervision throughout the campus. The position primarily supports student transitions, hallway expectations, common areas, and administrative staff with routine student supervision needs.
This is a non-instructional, non-certified position and does not replace the role of teachers, administrators, counselors, or other professional staff.
Essential Duties- Monitor hallways, common areas, entrances, and other assigned areas during the school day.
- Assist with orderly student transitions between classes, lunch, arrival, dismissal, and school activities.
- Provide friendly reminders to students regarding school expectations, including appropriate behavior, voice level, movement through hallways, and being in assigned areas.
- Redirect minor student behavior using calm, respectful, and positive communication.
- Encourage students to report to class promptly and follow established school routines.
- Maintain a visible adult presence in assigned areas to help discourage inappropriate behavior.
- Report repeated, significant, or concerning student behavior to the appropriate teacher or administrator.
- Assist administrators with basic student supervision when requested.
- Help supervise students waiting for administrative assistance, parent pickup, transportation, or other school services.
- Observe and promptly report safety concerns, unauthorized visitors, conflicts, or unusual activity to administration.
- Build positive, appropriate relationships with students while reinforcing school expectations.
- Perform other student supervision and campus support duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
The Student Support Assistant is not responsible for administering formal student discipline, conducting disciplinary investigations, assigning consequences, providing academic instruction, or performing counseling services. Matters requiring administrative intervention will be referred to the appropriate school administrator.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work effectively with children and adolescents.
- Ability to communicate calmly and respectfully with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to follow school procedures and administrator directions.
- Dependable, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school campus.
- Positive and approachable demeanor.
- Consistent and fair when reinforcing school expectations.
- Strong situational awareness.
- Ability to de-escalate minor student concerns through calm communication.
- Willingness to work collaboratively with teachers and administrators.
