Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Development Engineer II - Frontend based in India.
This role offers the opportunity to build the frontend foundations of a global commerce platform designed to support millions of small and medium-sized businesses.
You will create customer-facing experiences across storefronts, checkout, catalogs, subscriptions, invoices, and contracts.
The work combines frontend engineering depth with a strong focus on performance, resilience, accessibility, and internationalisation.
Your interfaces will operate across 150+ countries, including challenging network conditions, slower devices, and embedded third-party environments.
You will have significant ownership over performance budgets, observability, offline capabilities, and the quality of the overall user experience.
Working in a largely greenfield environment, you will collaborate closely with product and design teams while helping shape modern commerce capabilities.
The role also provides opportunities to mentor junior engineers and contribute to a fast-moving, remote-first engineering culture.
- Build and ship high-quality commerce experiences, including storefronts, checkout, product catalogs, subscription management, invoices, and customer-facing documents.
- Develop frontend experiences that can be embedded into other applications using approaches such as module federation, iframes, and white-label hosts while maintaining isolation, fast loading, and graceful degradation.
- Own frontend performance budgets end to end, monitoring Core Web Vitals, bundle size, rendering costs, hydration, and main-thread activity, and measuring performance continuously through CI and production tooling.
- Build installable and offline-tolerant progressive web applications using service workers, thoughtful caching strategies, background synchronization, and reliable offline behavior.
- Deliver accessible experiences aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA, including semantic markup, keyboard navigation, focus management, and screen-reader support.
- Support comprehensive internationalisation and localisation across languages, currencies, tax requirements, address formats, locale-aware formatting, and right-to-left layouts.
- Instrument frontend applications with real-user monitoring and OpenTelemetry to identify performance and reliability regressions before they significantly impact customers.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to translate requirements into polished, scalable experiences.
- Mentor junior engineers, share technical knowledge, and contribute to engineering standards and continuous improvement.
- 2+ years of experience building and operating production frontend applications, with strong ownership of real-world software systems.
- Deep knowledge of Vue.js, including its reactivity model, component composition, rendering behavior, and the performance implications of architectural and implementation choices.
- Strong frontend performance expertise, with hands-on experience using Lighthouse, Chrome DevTools, and performance profiling tools to identify, measure, and resolve regressions.
- Practical knowledge of service workers and caching strategies, including precaching, runtime caching, versioning, invalidation, and reliable offline behavior.
- Experience with client-side state management and local caching at scale, using TanStack Query or an equivalent solution, including cache keys, staleness, invalidation, and optimistic updates.
- Strong understanding of accessibility as part of the development process, including semantic HTML, focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader behavior, and WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Experience with internationalisation and localisation, including message extraction, pluralisation, locale-aware currency and date formatting, and RTL layouts.
- Familiarity with modern frontend tooling and module federation, including technologies such as Rspack and Vite, as well as bundle analysis and code splitting.
- Strong attention to frontend craftsmanship, with the ability to identify and resolve subtle issues such as alignment inconsistencies, janky scrolling, layout shifts, and degraded experiences on throttled connections.
- Comfortable consuming typed backend contracts such as ConnectRPC/protobuf and reasoning about API contracts, error handling, and client-side failure states.
- Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex frontend issues and deliver practical solutions.
- Experience with the broader technical environment is valuable, including Go, ConnectRPC, Buf, GCP/GKE, Pub/Sub, ESLint, OpenTelemetry, and progressive web application technologies.
- Opportunity to work on a global commerce platform designed to support millions of businesses and significant transaction volumes.
- Exposure to greenfield engineering initiatives with limited technical debt and opportunities to influence architecture and product direction.
- Work on challenging frontend problems involving performance, accessibility, resilience, localisation, offline functionality, and embedded experiences.
- Remote-first working environment designed to support distributed teams across multiple countries.
- Collaboration with product, design, and engineering professionals in a fast-paced, ownership-oriented culture.
- Opportunities to mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical standards and engineering practices.
- Continuous learning and professional development through exposure to modern frontend technologies and large-scale distributed systems.
- Opportunity to build software that directly influences customer experiences, conversion, and business outcomes.
- The source posting does not specify a salary range, healthcare package, paid leave details, or additional formal benefits.
