Job Description

Job Summary:

The Foreman Trainee is a developmental position designed to prepare an individual for future responsibility as a Foreman within PARCO terminal operations. Working closely with terminal leadership and experienced team members, the Foreman Trainee will learn all aspects of terminal operations, including safety and environmental compliance, bulk liquid handling, inventory management, equipment operation, employee coordination, documentation, and daily work planning.

The Foreman Trainee will remain actively involved in hands-on terminal operations while progressively developing the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to coordinate employees, prioritize work, communicate operating conditions, and support safe and efficient terminal operations. As knowledge and proficiency develop, the trainee will assume increasing responsibility for Foreman duties under appropriate guidance.

Essential Functions:

  1. Protect family and friends. Learn and support safety and compliance requirements throughout the facility, including participation in PEPs, Self-Inspections, Monthly Safety Initiatives, Toolbox Talks, pre-job discussions, and the consistent application of company policies and procedures.
  2. Obligated. Learn facility environmental requirements and assist with required inspections, documentation, and recordkeeping associated with SPCC, SWPP, FRP, and other applicable programs.
  3. Communication. Develop the ability to provide clear direction to terminal operators and communicate operating priorities, delays, equipment issues, inventory concerns, and shift information to management and partner teams.
  4. Honesty and Truth. Assist with and learn to maintain accurate inspection records, inventory records, and operating documentation. Identify and escalate issues promptly while communicating factual operating conditions to management and affected teams.
  5. Respect and Engage. Work collaboratively with the Maintenance Shop, Dispatch Department, Rail Terminal, and other partner teams to coordinate activities and complete necessary operational tasks.
  6. Transparency and Learning. Learn to plan, prioritize, and coordinate daily work within the facility. Participate in communication regarding inspection findings, incidents, near misses, shift updates, and corrective actions to support continuous improvement and prevent repeat issues.
  7. Integrity. Learn employee timekeeping and basic supervisory processes, including the preparation and submission of employee timecards and appropriate documentation and communication related to employee performance.
  8. Results Matter. Learn to review Plant Report Sales and Inventory information with the Plant Clerk and understand how inventory, sales, and terminal activity affect daily operating decisions.
  9. Focused. Develop an understanding of how terminal operations are coordinated around inventory levels, tank capacity, incoming railcars, customer demand, truck schedules, and product-quality requirements. Work with leadership and Quality Control when product quality or blending concerns arise.
  10. Humility. Remain actively involved in terminal operations, including the operation, inspection, and troubleshooting of pumps, valves, piping, tanks, and related equipment.
  11. Committed to serve. Progressively assume additional Foreman responsibilities as operational knowledge, leadership capability, and proficiency are demonstrated.

Requirements, Education and Experience:

  1. Previous experience in asphalt, petroleum, bulk liquid terminal, rail, or similar industrial operations preferred.
  2. Supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred.
  3. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience operating and troubleshooting pumps, valves, piping, tanks, and related equipment.
  4. Knowledge of safe bulk liquid transfer and hot-product handling practices.
  5. Ability to monitor tank levels, temperatures, gauges, and product inventory.
  6. Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and product quality.
  7. Good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  8. Ability to lead a crew while remaining actively involved in daily terminal operations.
  9. Ability to work safely outdoors in an industrial environment and in varying weather conditions.
  10. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules as operational needs require.
  11. Proficient verbal and written English communication skills
  12. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  13. Legal right to work in the U.S.

Travel:

Position requires up to 5% travel by car to offices throughout Hudson Valley, Vermont, Connecticut, and Massachusetts based on the needs of the operation.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Heavy work that includes moving objects up to 100lbs or more. This position works outdoors in most types of weather including high heat, and inclement weather. This position works near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment. This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, sitting, reaching, driving, and repetitive motion.
