About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished Project Director, Multi-Site Project Management to lead, manage, and strengthen a Project Management organization across multiple locations, supporting a portfolio of customer projects ranging from $300M to $500M annually across multiple strategic customers.

This highly visible leadership role has direct management responsibility for Project Management teams and Project Management leaders across Houston, TX; Sacramento, CA; Youngstown, OH; Brookfield, OH; and Vancouver, Canada, while providing strong matrix leadership and influence across Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Production, Quality, Safety, Finance, Estimating, Testing, and Sales.

The Project Director will be accountable for developing Project Management talent, establishing consistent project execution standards, optimizing resource utilization, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, on margin, and to the highest quality standards across the portfolio.

The successful candidate will serve as the senior functional leader for Project Management, responsible for organizational performance, staffing, talent development, workload balancing, project governance, and execution excellence. While directly managing the Project Management organization, the Project Director must effectively influence and align functional leaders across Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, Quality, Finance, and Sales to achieve customer commitments and business objectives.

The Project Director will also serve as the executive point of contact for assigned strategic customers and customer portfolios, providing leadership oversight, executive communication, escalation management, and relationship development. This role is responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction, maintaining alignment between customer expectations and business objectives, and driving successful project outcomes across the portfolio.
This position may be based in Houston, Texas or Sacramento, California with travel up to 30% required to support project teams, customer engagements, and business operations across all locations.

The Project Director will be responsible for leading Project Managers, developing talent, standardizing best practices, improving Project Management processes, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, on margin, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Production, Quality, Safety, Finance, Estimating, and Sales leadership, you will drive organizational alignment, resource optimization, operational discipline, and execution excellence across the company.

What You'll Do
  • Provide direct leadership and management of Project Management teams and Project Management leaders across Houston, TX; Sacramento, CA; Youngstown, OH; Brookfield, OH; and Vancouver, Canada.
  • Lead and develop Project Managers through coaching, mentoring, performance management, succession planning, and organizational development initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for a portfolio of customer projects ranging from $300M to $500M annually across multiple strategic and key customers.
  • Serve as the executive point of contact for assigned strategic customers and customer portfolios, building strong relationships and serving as a trusted partner throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead executive-level customer reviews, portfolio reviews, and business updates, providing transparency into project performance, key milestones, risks, mitigation plans, recovery actions, and delivery commitments.
  • Manage customer escalations, priorities, expectations, and strategic initiatives while ensuring alignment between customer commitments and internal execution teams.
  • Partner closely with Sales and Business Development leadership to strengthen customer relationships, support growth initiatives, and identify opportunities for additional business.
  • Ensure customer concerns, issues, and requests are addressed promptly while balancing contractual obligations, schedule commitments, margin objectives, and quality requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent Project Management framework, governance structure, operating rhythm, and execution methodology across the organization.
  • Drive accountability for project delivery performance, ensuring projects are executed safely, on time, on budget, on margin, and in accordance with customer and quality requirements.
  • Provide strong matrix leadership and influence across Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain, Production, Quality, Safety, Finance, Estimating, Testing, and Sales to ensure alignment with project priorities and customer commitments.
  • Partner with functional leaders to resolve resource constraints, execution challenges, schedule recovery plans, and project risks impacting customer delivery.
  • Oversee multiple customer portfolios and ensure appropriate staffing, resource allocation, workload balancing, and organizational alignment across locations.
  • Lead Project Management talent development, succession planning, performance management, and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Standardize project execution best practices, tools, processes, metrics, controls, and reporting across all facilities.
  • Lead internal project reviews, project portfolio reviews, risk reviews, workload assessments, and resource planning discussions.
  • Conduct regular reviews with Project Managers to evaluate project health, forecast performance, schedule adherence, margin performance, resource requirements, and customer satisfaction.
  • Partner with Engineering, Procurement, Production, Quality, Safety, and Finance leadership to ensure cross-functional execution aligns with project schedules and delivery commitments.
  • Monitor key project and portfolio performance indicators, including schedule performance, margin performance, customer satisfaction, forecast accuracy, resource utilization, and project profitability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, project execution, profitability, and customer experience.
  • Support Project Managers in resolving escalated customer, execution, resource, commercial, and organizational issues.
  • Ensure consistent communication and collaboration between sites while fostering a unified Project Management culture.
  • Influence executive leadership and cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and business objectives.
  • Travel regularly to support Project Management teams, participate in customer meetings, conduct project reviews, and maintain strong visibility across all operating locations.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • PMP Certification required.
  • 15+ years of progressive Project Management experience, including significant experience leading Project Management organizations.
  • Proven experience leading and developing Project Management teams across multiple sites, facilities, or business units.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple customer portfolios and project organizations with annual project volumes ranging from $300M to $500M.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects involving protection and control systems, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, relay panels, motor control centers (MCCs), power distribution equipment, industrial control panels, integrated E-House/control house solutions, and other engineered electrical systems.
  • Strong experience managing geographically dispersed teams and driving organizational alignment across multiple locations.
  • Experience building and implementing Project Management standards, governance structures, methodologies, operating rhythms, and performance metrics.
  • Advanced knowledge of project planning, scheduling, forecasting, resource management, project controls, portfolio management, and recovery planning.
  • Proven ability to manage organizational workload, staffing plans, resource allocation, and capacity planning across multiple locations.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with experience managing revenue, cost performance, forecasting, profitability, margin performance, contract administration, and business metrics.
  • Experience leading project review processes, executive reviews, customer reviews, portfolio reviews, and operational performance reviews.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, coaching, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive leadership and cross-functional organizations to achieve business objectives.
  • Experience within engineered-to-order manufacturing, industrial, utility, power distribution, electrical equipment, EPC, data center, or infrastructure environments preferred.

Location & Travel
  • This position may be based in Houston, Texas; Sacramento, California
  • Travel up to 30% is required to support Project Management teams, customer engagements, project reviews, and business operations across all locations.
  • Regular travel to Houston, Sacramento, Youngstown, Brookfield, and Vancouver is expected to maintain organizational alignment, team development, and execution excellence.
  • The Project Director is expected to maintain a visible presence with Project Management teams, customers, and business leadership to drive performance, strengthen organizational capability, and support successful project delivery.
