Job Overview
Under the direction of the AVP of Civic Engagement, the Associate Director of Civic Engagement will be responsible for implementing AltaMed’s Civic Engagement mission, guiding principles, and priorities to increase the footprint, visibility, amplification, and scalability of its Integrated Civic Engagement Model (ICEM). The Associate Director will work collaboratively with AVP and department leadership to set the direction of AltaMed’s civic engagement strategy and goals. This position will be responsible for leading the civic engagement team to ensure that the strategy is implemented effectively and promptly, by providing guidance and leadership to the team. This position will also be responsible for developing, fostering, and sustaining strategic partnerships with internal departments, organizational leaders, key community stakeholders and CBOs, funders, state and national partners, and thought leaders.
The Associate Director will be responsible for the implementation of ICEM across all clinic sites, ensuring constant and consistent communication with medical and clinic leadership, developing a civic engagement curriculum for internal employee engagement, including providers, family medicine residents, nurses, and new hire orientations. This position will be responsible for ensuring that all grant-funded work is executed in time, effectively, and within budget. This also includes timely submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to funders and for publication and dissemination amongst internal and external stakeholders. This position will represent AVP and AltaMed at key stakeholder meetings, at key coalition and partner meetings, and in public speaking settings like conferences, panels, webinars, and trainings. The Associate Director will work closely with direct reports and the AVP to develop quarterly goals aligned with organizational priorities.
Associate Director will prepare and create communications as needed including letters to legislators, public comment letters, assistance with written testimonies and client vignettes, internal company wide communications including newsletters, and get out the vote campaigns, fact sheets, FAQs, voter guides, and voter education materials. Track and report on all campaign activities to include contacts, engagement and voter mobilization campaign outcomes. This will include working with external academic institutions to complete reports on the efficacy and impact of campaigns. In partnership with AVP, the Associate Director will manage and track budgets for grants and other monies allocated to civic engagement. This position will also work to identify funding opportunities in support of civic engagement.
The Associate Director will also work to expand awareness of the AltaMed Action Fund 501c4 social welfare mission among community members and elected officials in California by engaging in legislative and grassroots lobbying, educational voter engagement campaigns, and social welfare advocacy. The Associate Director is required to work successfully with representatives of different communities, organizations, and neighborhoods with respect to the diverse populations and cultures. This position will also support AltaMed’s government relations priorities.
Minimum Requirements
BA/BS in Public Relations, Communications, Government Affairs, Political Science, Public Health, or related area required.
A master’s degree or a combination of education and experience related to Civic Engagement, Community Outreach, Campaigns, Voter Education, and Planning is highly desired.
Minimum 8 years of overall experience related to Civic Engagement, Community Outreach, Campaigns, Voter Education, and Planning or related discipline required.
Civic engagement subject matter expertise, including but not limited to the decennial census, redistricting, elections (local, state, national), key partners (local, state, national), innovative models and approaches, theory and practice (BIPOC voters), understanding the data and trends.
Experience with public speaking in various settings: internal department and staff engagement, external CBO, and community engagement. Tailoring content and tone to various audiences.
Experience in leading a team, coalition building, and facilitation
Experience in research-informed writing that incorporates complex topics
Experience managing staff and related partners in a collaborative environment
Bilingual abilities and experience working with the Latino community are a plus
Minimum 3 years’ experience with civic and voter engagement work and campaigns; Experience in leading, planning, and participating in panel discussions with community organizations.
Experience with communication development in various platforms (i.e., internal staff communication, engaging additional stakeholders, and content tailoring to different audiences). Increasing knowledge and practice of business writing through a social justice lens.
Compensation
$101,065.58 - $126,331.97 annuallyCompensation Disclaimer
Actual salary offers are considered by various factors, including budget, experience, skills, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. The range is subject to change. AltaMed is committed to ensuring a fair and competitive compensation package that reflects the candidate's value and the role's strategic importance within the organization.
