Overview

This position in a growing, high profile, department is looking for enthusiastic individuals to guide project teams to identify, assess, and mitigate execution risks to ensure successful completion of complex tasks at Electric Boat’s offsite locations (Focus Factories). To achieve these goals, the right candidate needs to be a team player with strong critical thinking and interpersonal communication skills as well as a relentless questioning attitude.

This position is based in the Groton shipyard but will require travel to the various Focus Factories. This position will engage in both Propulsion Plant and Non-Propulsion Plant construction activities and will require flexibility in work schedule to include off shift and weekends to support ship’s key events and test programs.

The Program Representative will be D377’s onsite presence at the Focus Factories and will be expected to engage with internal and external stakeholders including engineering, ship’s management, site personnel, and regulatory agencies (SUPSHIP, NRRO, RPCO, etc.) in order to support successful execution of high-risk work.


Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Aiding in shipyard/off-site readiness to execute first time and high-risk work using the Risk Assessment and Mitigation (RAMP) process
  • Ability to gain knowledge on all facets of the submarine construction processes via research and personal interactions and apply critical thinking to identify areas of risk
  • Facilitating effective risk review meetings for all involved stakeholders on a large variety of projects
  • Providing an independent engineering review of risk assessments and mitigation methods.
  • Ensuring engineering engagement in construction related Learning Sessions.
  • Providing oversight and direction for engineering surveillances of construction and testing evolutions.
  • Coordinating Senior Management Review Teams for complex tasks.

Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Responsibilities

  • Working level knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to independently communicate across all levels of EB organizations and with external stakeholders such as SUPSHIP and NRRO
  • Ability to read/interpret Piping and Instrumentation drawings.
  • Ability to read/interpret engineering/mechanical drawings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand high level objectives and priorities while driving detailed level actions.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate and interrogate lifting and handling diagrams.


Qualifications

Required

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of lifting and handling experience in a shipyard/maritime/construction. environment to include a demonstrated ability to execute complex lifting and handling evolutions.
  • A working knowledge of project management principles as they relate to risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Ability to travel with short notice (up to 50%) to support aggressively scheduled first time or high-risk work.

Preferred

  • A Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace/Aeronautical, Civil, Manufacturing, Naval Architecture, Ocean, or Marine Engineering.
  • 5+ years’ industry experience in a collaborative engineering/construction environment.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Rigger in Charge (RIC).
  • Qualified Rigging Certification (API RP 2D or equivalent).
  • Naval Propulsion Plant construction experience beneficial.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop complex lifting and handling procedures.
  • Engineering and/or consulting experience leading collaborative multidiscipline efforts.
