Job Description

Established in 1926, Family Service League is a social services agency transforming lives and communities through mental health, addiction, housing, and essential human services with more than 60 social service programs in over 20 locations.

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday 3:00PM-11:00PM.

Rotating on-called schedule included.

SUMMARY:

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Supervisor for our Smithtown Shelter. The Supervisor performs a wide variety of tasks to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the shelter. The Supervisor is responsible for providing services and support to all clients, overseeing staff, and ensuring that the operational policies and procedures are always being followed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Supervisor will oversee staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and conducting supervision and performance appraisals.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with the Program Director Monday through Friday, including covering shifts when needed.
  • Maintain accuracy of Daily Census with Front Desk.
  • Schedule and facilitate regular Client Advocate team meetings.
  • Provide regularly scheduled supervision with each Client Advocate.
  • The Supervisor will review, complete follow up, and submit Incident Reports.
  • Maintain precise and accurate documentation of Case Management services, including client files and entries into the program databases.
  • Conduct Safety Check’s weekly.
  • Provides assessment, crisis intervention, individual, family, and group services to children, youth, and families.
  • Complete new client intakes and explain shelter rules and regulations to clients.
  • The Supervisor will maintain a caseload of up to five clients.
  • Meet with clients a minimum of two times per week for face-to-face meetings.
  • Develop Independent Living Plan for assigned families.
  • Complete Independent Living Plan bi-weekly.
  • The Supervisor will work collaboratively with Housing Specialists in finding permanent housing options for clients.
  • Work with clients in creating a budget to identify needs and obligations. Where applicable, incorporate upcoming shelter obligation.
  • Maintain and update resource database of social service organizations relevant to the needs of client.
  • Foster inter-agency collaboration to assist in clients’ long-term stability.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation regarding client services in client files.
  • Complete monthly reports in a timely manner. Submit documentation to DSS Housing Liaison.
  • The Supervisor will attend scheduled team meetings, individual supervision, and required trainings.
  • Oversee compliance of rules, regulations and policies of shelter.
  • Set and observe appropriate boundaries with clients; observe client confidentiality and HIPPA protocols.
  • The Supervisor will advocate for client needs.
  • Work collaboratively with members of a larger treatment or service coordination team, both within the agency and in the larger community.
  • Collaborate with the Security to discuss and resolve client incidents.
  • The Supervisor will oversee Bus Token distribution.
  • Responsible for reading and understanding the Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Required to read and respond to daily emails.
  • This position is essential to the safe and continuous operation of the program. Essential employees are expected to report to work during inclement weather and other relevant emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted care and support for clients.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.

LMSW preferred.

A minimum of 3 years’ related experience required.

Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge of homeless population and DSS policies and regulations requeired.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, required. HMIS preferred.

Spanish language fluency preferred.

Valid, clean, NYS Driver’s License required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as moderate lifting up to 10-15 pounds. Must be able to go up and down stairs.
