Location: Midlothian, Virginia
Work Schedule: Hybrid (requires four days per week in office)
Salary Range: $55,000 - $75,000 annually. This range represents the good-faith salary range C&F Mortgage Corporation reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and other business-related factors.

Position Summary
The Mortgage Compliance Specialist supports the organization's compliance management program by helping ensure adherence to federal and state mortgage regulations, investor requirements, and internal policies. This role partners closely with mortgage operations, underwriting, processing, closing, and leadership teams to provide compliance guidance, support regulatory reporting, and promote consistent, compliant lending practices throughout the loan lifecycle.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of mortgage lending regulations, disclosure requirements, quality control processes, and compliance monitoring activities.
Responsibilities
Compliance Monitoring and Support
- Support compliance with federal, state, agency, and investor mortgage requirements.
- Review mortgage loan files and transactions to identify potential compliance concerns and regulatory risks.
- Assist with compliance monitoring activities, quality control reviews, and corrective action tracking.
- Research regulatory questions and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Help maintain compliance procedures, forms, and internal controls.
Regulatory Reporting and Licensing
- Assist with the preparation, validation, and submission of regulatory reporting, including HMDA reporting and related compliance monitoring activities.
- Support NMLS licensing administration and renewal activities.
- Maintain regulatory records and documentation required by federal and state agencies.
- Assist with regulatory examinations, investor reviews, internal audits, and external audits.
Disclosure and Operational Support
- Support review and oversight of mortgage disclosures to help ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company standards.
- Partner with operations teams to address disclosure, documentation, and process-related compliance issues.
- Assist with identification and resolution of compliance exceptions and trends.
- Monitor corrective actions to ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
Training and Compliance Culture
- Assist in developing and delivering compliance-related training and educational resources.
- Support onboarding and ongoing compliance education initiatives.
- Promote awareness of regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) or more years of experience in mortgage compliance, quality control, audit, mortgage operations, underwriting, processing, or a related field
- Working knowledge of mortgage lending regulations and disclosure requirements
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Compliance, Risk Management, or a related field
- Experience with HMDA reporting and data integrity reviews
- Experience administering or supporting NMLS licensing activities
- Knowledge of TRID, RESPA, TILA, ECOA, HMDA, Fair Lending, FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and investor requirements
- Experience with mortgage loan origination systems and compliance software
- Previous experience supporting regulatory examinations or compliance audits
