JOB OVERVIEW -
We are seeking a detail-oriented Urine Toxicology Lab Analyst to join our laboratory team. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, extensive laboratory experience, and knowledge of regulatory standards such as GLP, FDA regulations, and CGMP. This role involves conducting urine drug testing, ensuring quality control, and supporting research and development initiatives within a clinical or industrial laboratory setting.

JOB DESCRIPTION -

The Testing Personnel is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results. They should only perform those tests that are authorized by the Laboratory Director and that are within the individual's skill level as determined by education, training, experience, and technical abilities. Other duties may be assigned by management depending on the needs of the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES -

Pre-analytic Phase of Testing

• If performing specimen collection has read and understands all requirements and agrees to follow procedures in place.
• Understands the ordering process and ensures all orders are documented.
• Understands the established protocol for processing and submitting specimens to reference laboratories.

Analytic Phase of Testing

• Performs only the high complexity testing allowed by their qualifications.
• Has read, understands, and agrees to follow the procedure of the testing to be performed.
• Performs and documents routine maintenance, calibrations, and calibration verification of analyzers following established protocols.
• Ensures that an adequate supply of all reagents, calibrators and supplies is available to perform testing. Agrees to maintain all package inserts for a minimum of two years.
• Ensure that quality control is not expired and that replacement is ordered if close to the expiration date.
• Ensures that correct procedure is followed for change of lot number.
• Adheres to the Laboratory's quality control policies and documentation of all QC activities.
• Understands to never report patient results if QC is not acceptable.
• Understands to always run QC after calibration and confirms that the QC is acceptable before testing patient samples.
• Follows the laboratory's policies whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance and documents applicable corrective action taken.
• Can identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the immediate supervisor.

Post-analytic Phase of Testing

• Verifies that patient test results are accurate before reporting.
• Verifies critical values and follows established procedure regarding repeating notifying1 and recording.
• Retains all analyzer printouts for a minimum of two years.
• Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing has been evaluated in the same manner as patients.
• Performs Quality Assessment activities and review reports as assigned.
• Records any complaints or incidents according to protocol and gives them to supervisor.
• Maintains patient reports and records for a minimum of two years.

For Testing Personnel to qualify they must fulfill one of the following five criteria and have documentation of training at present facility for all testing performed:

1. Earned an AA degree (or experience equivalent) in laboratory science AND graduated from clinical lab training program OR have 3 months experience in each specialty of high complexity testing performed.

2. Earned a High School diploma or equivalent prior to 4/24/95 AND have graduated from an HHS-approved lab training program OR completed Military Medical Lab Specialist 50-week course.

3. Earned a High School diploma or equivalent AND documented training for high complexity testing prior to 4/24/95 AND if training before 1/19/93, requires supervisory review within 24 hours OR if training is after 1/19/93, requires on-site supervision when high complexity testing is performed.

4. Be a Licensed MD, DO, DPM.

5. Earned a PhD, master’s, or bachelor's degree in lab science.
