Scientific Director - Oncology

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Scientific Director - Oncology based in United States.

The Scientific Director will lead the scientific strategy, content development, and oversight for major pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device accounts.
This is a highly visible role combining scientific leadership, client partnership, and strategic brand planning within a medical communications environment.
You will translate complex oncology data into accurate, clinically relevant, and compelling scientific communications.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the scientific strategy, planning, development, and oversight of content across assigned accounts, with particular focus on oncology.
  • Serve as a senior scientific partner to clients, leading scientific discussions, client interactions, and contributions to brand strategy.
  • Lead the scientific components of brand planning, medical education initiatives, and new business development activities.
  • Develop and oversee scientifically rigorous content for programs such as advisory boards, speaker programs, slide decks, and other promotional medical education materials.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate complex scientific and clinical data in ways that are accurate, relevant, and accessible to healthcare audiences.
  • Partner with client services teams to develop statements of work, project timelines, resource plans, and deliverables.
  • Manage scientific resources and contribute to effective allocation of team capacity across projects and accounts.
  • Ensure scientific content follows established medical editorial processes, professional standards, and applicable ethical guidelines.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining quality and meeting demanding deadlines.
  • Identify opportunities for organic account growth and contribute to expanding strategic partnerships with existing clients.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to ensure scientific strategy is effectively translated into high-quality program execution.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in a scientific discipline is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience within a medical communications agency or related environment, with demonstrated experience developing promotional medical education content.
  • Proven oncology experience is required, with the ability to understand, evaluate, and communicate complex oncology science and clinical data.
  • Strong experience with medical education programs such as advisory boards, speaker programs, scientific slide decks, and related communications.
  • Demonstrated understanding of professional medical editorial standards, including AMA style, as well as relevant ethical guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and scientific interpretation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, accurate, and strategically relevant communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence interacting with clients and multidisciplinary internal teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction while exercising sound scientific judgment and ownership.
  • Strategic, collaborative, and client-focused mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions constructively, and contribute to business growth.
